I take the Continental nonstop EWR (Newark Liberty) to NRT (Tokyo Narita), then Thai to and from BKK. Short connection time (2 hours) in NRT on the inbound trip, longer stopover returning to EWR. But since the JFK-BKK nonstop service was cancelled, it's one of the quickest ways in terms of total travel time of getting to BKK from NYC. Company pays for me to fly biz, but I've seen economy advertised at around $1,250 for this route. (This is double what you would have paid two years ago)

Second the Cathay Pacific. I have a flight with them in October that connects at JFK then HKG to BKK.

Arrives BKK at 1730 next day. Mine was $1200 originating in Columbus, OH.

Bill:

Actually, the Cathay (CX) flight Deal of the Month is as low as $1,050 all in (including fuel surcharges) if you leave midweek. I am flying on a friday, so 1,100.

I don't think there is a chance your going to beat that. Hurry though, only good for booking during July for the fall and seats fill up quick.

There are a lot of reasons why it's great. Short (90 minute) layover in HK, then another few hours only until bangkok. Can sleep up until bangkok, and usually time to slip into a day room for a shower change and then hit bangkok running. HK is a great airport and CX usually os rated in the top 3 airlines worldwide. They just redid all the economy classes on their transpacific flights, and I thought they were nice before. Free booze, good food, friendly cute FAs, great ptv under your control, and better seats than most.

Don't forget to check Cathay's website. I have been looking at tickets, and the best deal that I could find is from direct off thier website.

I'm booked with UA out of Philly and fly to SFO, NRT, BKK. I try and avoid Chicago and usually I'm able to upgrade to first class on the PHL-SFO leg of the trip. I paid around $1150USD return.
