Bartimes Bar and Restaurant

Recommended Posts

Bartimes is a nicely done bar and restaurant on Walking St where I have been going lately to have a bit of good food. It's a great location for people-watching while you eat, the seating is comfortable, and the food that I have had is quite good. I've had the chicken in mushroom sauce and the lamb chops. Both were tasty, prepared and presented nicely. The owner (or manager?) is a Frenchman named Ricky.

They have very good pool tables (3) midway into the bar where you can play for 20b/game with decent air con running. The bar is open air, but the middle part is aircon'd, thankfully.

This bar and restaurant goes all the way from the sidewalk on Walking St to the ocean in the back. The location is where Climax Blues Bar used to be, and then Magic Palace Agogo (during its 3 months of operation).

The pricing is reasonable...not cheap, but not over the top either. I think I paid 390b for the Australian lamb chops, and it was, IMHO, well worth it.

Heineken is 120b, water is 80b, and Tiger is 100b. They probably charge a premium for drinks because a lot of tourists might tend to buy a water and just sit for hours watching the street. In short, the drinks are pricier than some gogos, but the food is, as I said, reasonably priced for the quality.

Here are some pictures of the bar, menu, pool tables etc.

Spasiba Tovarich Marteen!

What are they all going to do when that blue tube neon goes out of fashion? Love that late sixties sofa and armchairs BTW.

Sacré bleu Ricky!

It's French. What more is there to say? :behead

You're right though, and I neglected to mention, that they are trying for the Russian tourist market as well. From what I have seen, the only Russians they get are the couples who buy a water or soda and sit all night watching the street without spending any money.

Oh, by the way, they close at 6am.

But Martin, I have never been to any of these two places before and so have no idea where this Bartimes bar/restaurant is, apart from the fact that is is somewhere on Walking street.

Martin, sorry - I've just realised that you mentioned in the thread title itself that it is near Polo bar.

I think my neighbour's wife works there. She also cooks at his restaurant by the lake on Soi Siam CC.

A restaurant charging 120baht for a beer is excessive, and enough to keep me out. I frequent a place where I get a large Heinekin for that. Trouble is most people look at the food prices in a restaurant and order the beer without.

They might benefit by offering reduced drink prices to those ordering food.

I have a friend who also suffers from Russian tourists who ask for free hot water in his hotel restuarant, to go with the pot noodle and bottle of beer they bought at the 7-11.

I agree wholeheartedly. The water with a meal shouldn't be 80b...but water alone, okay, I can live with that.

Looks good and worth a try, assuming with your lamb chops you had Veg etc it looks good value

when a cheesburger is 220 baht and french fries is 90baht, from what i can make out on the price list.

And I've never been to Polo bar..... :bow So WTF is it?

It's a long way from Cape D'agde, you can be sure of that. :D

Using the extremely useful pattayaphotoguide feature, here is a picture of Polo's entrance during the day. The picture is a bit old, and shows the Bartimes bar (below Galaxy European Agogo) in a state of construction.

Once you click on the link and go to that page, you can use hold down the left mouse button and rotate the picture to look up and down the street to get oriented. I love this site.
