What is the procedure for renewing motobike license sticker

Recommended Posts

The dealership will do it for you
Why should they? I thought this was just for the initial purchase!

Go along to the vehicle registration centre on highway 36, near the 'School of the Regents'.

Take the book, green one.

Receipt for the compulsory Insurance...or if that has expired, you can buy insurance at the vehicle registration centre. (I recommend supplementary insurance, as the comp one does not cover your bail sufficiently. It would be better if the comp and supp. insurances are from the same provider...see a broker)

Money......

(The bike is only 1 year old so no mechanical check required)

It really is quite easy but a helpful TG gets around the language issues.

There are a lot of insurance shops in 3rd rd (past tot) that will do all the running about to the vehicle reg place.....all for about 50baht.

For all you with a bike over 7years, you can go to the garage on sukumvit (between pat klang and pat nua) northbound. Cant remember the name but it looks like a normal UK MOT garage (with a small office at the back)...they will test the bike, get insurance and sticker etc very very cheaply.

I take it then that all you need to do is to take your green book with you and leave it with whoever is doing the running about for you whether this is an insurance company or motorbike dealership and then wait for the place to come back with the sticker and for this you need to give a modest fee. Seems to beat having to go all the way down to the Regents School.

Sure, I see plenty of people there at the office wandering around with a fistful of papers doing exactly that. Just ensure you are paying a modest fee, Generally the mark-up to a falang can be high..... I prefer not to give them the opportunity.

The comp insurance for my Nuovo was 323 baht.

The disc is about 100 baht only..(plus 1 baht/day if overdue)

Supplemenary Insurance should be about 2500 baht... again for a scooter!

Theft Insurance is best obtained when you buy from the dealer. Elsewhere it is expensive and not worthwhile.

Jack, as you say its much easier just to take the green book to a local bike dealer, the one you bought it from is good, and let them do it. I have done this every year except one for the last four years. they charge 200 baht fee for a small bike upto about 125cc. my mate pays 600 baht extra for his 200cc phantom. You go back and pick up the new sticker about 14 days later, but they give you a receipt for the money in case you are stopped.

You can avoid that too by applying before the old one expires.. a month ahead is no problem if you already have the insurance.

This is why the third road insurance places are better....they only take an extra 50baht AND they will have your sticker back in approx 2 days depending on when they do the "run". (they do a collected amount at once)

We've just done ours and were told you do not get a sticker anymore, have to keep new paperwork with you.
Beware, there is no longer a sticker for the insurance, you do still get a disc for the tax. Must be displayed on a car, I carry it on my bike.
