Recommendations For A Visa Run

Recommended Posts

At the end of January I need to do a visa run and don't fancy the Cambodia border minibus.

A 2-3 night break, someplace nearby would be nice....no problems with a Thai passport required. A flight of 1-2 hours!

Plan 1, was a week or more in Oz... but the tourist visa requirements for the TGF are onerous.

I have done Singapore, twice (with Cathay) and Bali (Singapore Airlines), and stayed in Nong Khai and done a day trip to Vientienne.

(Bored with the minibus to Cambodia after umpteen trips)

Anybody know a good special with the airlines?

Anybody who has enjoyed a trip with the TGF that can suggest a venue?

Depends what you're after; sightseeing or partying (or both).

Luang Prabang (Laos) with BKK Airways or Hanoi and Halong Bay with Air Asia would be my two choices.

Sightseeing primarily, I live in Pattaya so partying is nothing new. Good suggestions.

Is Luang Prabang rather cold this time of year?

I am getting a sense that a British passport would require a visa for Vietnam, or some pre-approval to receive a visa at the airport.

Is that correct.

I have booked my next 3 visa runs when Air Asia had one of the frequent specials.I have booked Phnom Penh,Singapore and Macau and also Hat Yai to visit Tom's paradise down south-all for under $240.

I always post the Air Asia specials in the Airline Deals section when they occur.Unless it's an emergency,no more vans for me either-1 was plenty.

Hong Kong - Macau?

Could end up costing you a small fortune though!

Cheers!

jacko,

Yes, you'll need a visa for Vietnam. I would think one of the better, more established agents in Pattaya would be able to organise it for you. There does seem to be an online option but some of the sites providing the service don't instill a lot of confidence.

I agree about HK. I was looking to take in the horse racing at Sha Tin this weekend but the hotel availability and prices were a joke.

Possibly PAD could outsource their sit-in troops to occupy HKG for a week to lower hotel prices. :wtf

One of the most romantic places on the planet IMHO is the Taj Mahal. Perfect place to take a girl friend/wife for a romantic weekend. Sitting there taking in one of the wonders of the world with a bottle of wine and your favorite honey. :lovee

I was there a few years ago and all I can say, 'totally awesome'.

Yeah, although I have been to India and was 'not too impressed'.

I am a lazy sod and paying and making the effort for visas does not appeal to me. If I have to make a visa, I figure a country isn't serious as wanting me for a tourist.

I did research the Maldives, but the flights would be expensive in relation to a short stay.

(Didn't have BigD down as a big softie romantic, I am as romantic as a fish supper)
