Hey Guys Emirates are ceasing their service from NZ Through Aussie to BKK they allowed your golf gear as sporting equipment without extra charge.

Does anyone know of another such accomodating airline.

Thai did for me when I had silver status on their FF program. I've stopped using them now so don't know the current deal.

My clubs weigh 14kgs.

Pre book with a 20kg allowance, stuff your bag with shirts and undies, use socks and jocks to protect your club heads....leave long irons at home if you have hybrids...don't bring any golf balls, put what you can in carry-on, and buy some clothes at Made in Thailand when you get to town.

And wrap your bag in glad-wrap or similar, just leave the handle protruding.

And you won't need a shoulder strap.

british airways do not charge for golf clubs.

I'll be darned. That's an actual surprise. Good for BA, far from my favourite, but credit where credit's due.

Their American cousins United do, and SCREAM ABOUT IT on their website and emailings:

GOLF CLUBS. EACH SET IN EXCESS OF FREE ALLOWANCE USD 80.0

Although that's a lie, and from Thailand at least it's $100, maybe $80 from somewhere.

I happen to know that United treats a regular golf bag/clubs as one regular suitcase, so that's the "in excess of free allowance" warning.

Given their financial results this morning, I think that may not be the case for very much longer.

TAKEN FROM EMIRATES WEBSITE THREE MINUTES AGO ........ "Emirates has increased all weight based checked baggage allowances by 10 kgs, meaning we now have one of the world’s most generous baggage policies. Economy Class customers can now check in 30 kgs" "Golf equipment:

In addition to normal checked baggage allowances, one set of golf clubs and one pair of golf shoes may be carried free of charge per passenger in any class of service on any Emirates flight.

Golf equipment will be subject to excess baggage charges by other airlines on interline sectors, as per standard IATA procedures.
