You will no doubt get alot of negative answers to this post. Many BMs would like to have their own property here but cannot afford it and so will shoot you down saying lots of terrible things about the idea. In truth, i have a house here and im really happy with it, i have just spent close to 700'000 baht having work done to the house. If you want a place here then make sure you have done your research, look into location that is important for you and make sure you get what you want, not what someone tells you that you want. There is so much to choose from, it really depends upon your budget and what you want and where. I would strongly suggest you talk to Alan Bolton at the Avenue for honest advice. and think carefully before you decide what to do. Some guys prefer to just rent, which is ok, some like me and some of my friends decieded to buy our own places with the assistance of a good lawyer like Magna Carta. Good luck and dont let anyone tell you what to do who isn't qualified to do so

A house in your name...never going to happen

A house in a company name..technically illegal - though like many things in Thailand, this doesnt matter....until they decide it does

A condo in your name...most certainly (the piranhas will queue up to sell you one) just remember the Falang percentage basically pays for all the build

So pretty negative yes

(oh and a few mill THB isnt the stuff of dreams to me)

Very good advice given here.

There is also the totally legal way, that is the 30 yr leasehold. So if you are well over 50 chances are it wont bother you to lose it after 30 yrs.

It has been said that anything ever built in Thailand will always end up being owned by a Thai eventually.

I have, you either stick your neck out or bury your head in the sand. There are some bargains about right now.

If you don't like risk, a condo can be 100% in your name......

Lawyers are a mixed bunch, some will do you a good job, others will not, many are not even lawyers. Look for a recommendation, then confirm it with a second.

The police should not be involved in property purchase....
