Talented Seamstress

Recommended Posts

She just opened her own shop on Wat Mongkol market (right opposite Wat Tai, last lane coming from Tukom to 2nd road on the left, 2nd shop on the right). All ten dresses from bottom left of picture to right were handmade by herself! So, if you need perhaps a Loy Kratong dress for your tilac or even a wedding dress :beer, give this place a try. BTW - Par ( her name) can also fix you up with farang gear, ie suits, shirts, pants, jeans etc. as she has the right connections to fabric merchants and sweatshops. Will cost you a lot less then the Indian tailors :llaugh

If she is competitive price wise (quality I guess will be similar since she does use the same sweat shops - but she might help you find any faults if she wants to) I would rather support her than a "indian taylor"

Are she really interested in supplying mens clothing ?

Would she be selling Thai Silk (just the cloth) with a reasonable mark up ?

Yes to both! Just specify or pm me your requirements and I shall pass it on to her for sourcing. Beeing a clothcutter herself she is meticoulos in demanding quality from the factories.

Thanks for enquiry,

Cheers

My tilac has no idea what the Wat Mongkol market is. Any chance you can give me further directions?

Also...how much do you think she will be charging for a suit? Won't the quality be the same as the the indian tailors since she's going to the same factories?

THANKS! :)

I have just sent you a PM but strangely enough its not in my outbox so something must have gone wrong?

I would estimate price around 3000 baht depending on material. There are obviously different quality materials at different prices. Back to the directions: Walk down on the left side of Pattaya Tai (South Pattaya Road) from Tukom to 2nd Road. Accross the road on your right you will see Wat Tai (temple). Keep walking till you pass 3 pharmacies and just before the 4th there is the last small lane leading into the market to your left. You now pass a noodle seller on your left, a double clothing stall on your right and the next stall on your right is Par's. Hope you can find it.

Cheers

Does anyone know which different qualities there are of Thai silk - and what is a fair price per "standard unit" ?

What standard unit is it measured in - square meters ?

The standard unit is a metre long by whatever width of the material. Material including silk has several standard widths, but the price charged is by the length-wise metre unless otherwise agreed upon.

My Lady tells me that there are many types/prices for silk. Can vary between 500 and 5000 baht per meter.

Odense,

The difference in quality is normally between machine and hand-woven silk. You can easily tell the difference by looking at the edges of the fabric. It's difficult to put a price on it because there isn't a standard width and it is sold in metre lengths. Also, the weight of the material varies between 1 ply (blouses and shirts) and 6 ply (furnishings and curtains). There are some really good bargains to be had at the Jim Thompson factory outlet in Pattaya if you know what you're looking for. There are also a fair few, long-established dressmakers further up Pattaya Tai who quote competitive prices.

Thank you for the solid advice Tom - that IS the sensible way to do it.

My problem is that I don't know what I am looking for and very little about silks in general (that will always be a bad starting point for shopping) and frankly I am not really interested enough in silk to study the subject properly. I was hoping for a "short-cut" to buying a little without the salesperson being TOO happy after I left :P

Tom,

BM Odense asked a specific question about a lady who is establishing herself in a new business, with a view to

using THAT PARTICULAR establishment to purchase the right quality goods at a competetive and fair price. Your ramblings about the quality or otherwise of machine and hand woven silk are as irrelevant as your diversionary remarks, attempting to deflect any potential business, are totally mean spirited. Lamentable !

And, if you read further, he went on to say .....

"Does anyone know which different qualities there are of Thai silk - and what is a fair price per "standard unit" ?

Fucking idiot.

As it is, Odense appreciated the reply ....

Of course, if you have anything of any relevance whatsoever to add, please feel free to do so.

Whether Odense appreciated the reply or not, your additional remarks in context(post #12) were irrelevant, uncalled for and like you, unwanted. I know you can't help being a mean spirited, snide, S.O.B. Quite clearly I've hit on a raw nerve for you to use such expletives. Time to take a bike ride perhaps and try cooling down a little. Anger management classes may help ! Try keeping to the point in future, and kerb your truculence. :thumbup

If I was only replying in what you deem to be context, you'd have a point. But I wasn't, so you don't. Odense asked for some info and I gave it to him. Simple as that. That's what the board is all about - sharing information - isn't it? If you have absolutely nothing to share, it's not my problem.

If you want a job as a mod, drop MM a line. :thumbup As for being a "mean spirited, snide, S.O.B" - one of us has provided information and the other has only vented his personal frustrations. Your problem, not mine.

If you're going to use long words, at least try and get to grips with the short ones first. LOL. :thumbup

Hilarious, but once again you fail to impress !

Tom it's over, "Finito", don't you get it ? I've successfully made my point which is " your remarks, at best, were totally mean spirited". No getting away from that ! Bye :D

Any way, back on topic.

I normally pay 400 baht for a tailor made silk shirt, well silk mix I presume, If she can equal or better that, I will certainly buy a couple.

:nod

Thank you for calling the thread back to order! You beat me to it as I had I/N connection problems. Now, to answer your question, the price you quote is really at the low end and cannot be beaten. Thanks for enquiry anyway,

Cheers
