Hi,

I know this has been done to death, but what the hell.....

I am looking at a 12 week holiday next year from July - September. My stays in Pattaya have always been 2 week stints at places like:

Siam Bayshore

Lek hotel

Welkom Inn

Sabai Lodge

(in that order as I worked my way down the beach!)

For the longer stay I'm thinking a condo would be better (kitchen facilities - can't survive on american breakfasts and green curries for 85 days :-) and cheaper. Currently about the best option I can see is a Dancewatchers one bedroom in view talay 6 for 38000 per month plus electricity etc. The location is good, ie mid to south pattaya, next to Mikes shopping, has pool etc

However, would still like to hear anyone else's experience/views with long stays in condos and hotels. My thoughts are that:

- The condos do have hidden elec/laundry costs which might push up the avg daily rate to similar to a long stay hotel any.

- have not really seen much discussion of condos in North Pattaya (but they exist?).

- I quite like North Pattaya ( a little quieter during the day) ie soi 1, soi2 area, only a 10 baht ride to walking st

- have heard of the dark side (never ventured to a bar on the Big C side!) might be fun?

Any way, I would be interested to hear any experiences with 1 bedroom condo/pool cheap elec/laundry for sub 380000baht month in northen pattaya (I have started my homework, but the agents online mostly want 6 months to a year rental minimum and I would like to at least hear of an agent a boardmembr has dealt with and found OK.

Thanks for any help.

(PS especially of anything I may not have even yet considered ie I'm in the throws of looking at a thai bank account, closing up my house for 3 months and wondering if my car battery will survive :-)

Thanks

Very much low season and you would pick up the Flipper Lodge or Flipper House for 800 baht for a three month stay plus no electric costs etc ??

Ok not North Pattaya but nevertheless right on the Baht taxi route.

I stayed at VT6 and did not like the lack of servces. No maid service, 24-hour room service, no lobby for socializing, not even lounge chairs at the pool. I moved to Bella Villa Prima on Soi 4. A standard room for 3 months is 19,500 and a junior suite (almost a one-bedroom) is 24,000. You get in-room internet, safe, pool, gym, lobby and all hotel amenities. Big C is across the street and the baht bus will take you everywhere else.

Like you, I like the top end of Pattaya and have stayed at Sabai Inn for the last 5 or 6 visits. They give a really good rate during the low season with a 10% discount for a stay of 7 days or more - but I'm sure they'd discount it more than that for a longer stay - http://www.sabaiinn.com/index.html

On the reception desk at Sabai Inn are cards for the Seaside Guesthouse in Soi 3. When I asked about why, I was told that Sabai are managing the guesthouse. The rates look very good - http://www.seaside-guesthouse.com/index.html

However, if it were me, I'd get bored staying in a hotel for 12 weeks. I think you either want a place that can feel more like home than a hotel does or you need to consider, say, 3 different hotels. Perhaps you could spend part of the time in Jomtien?

i stayed in jomtien for three months in a condo which was just a hotel room with a couch, micro, and refer which was more than adequate for me.. rent was only about 15000 baht with elec and they had a nice big pool, and all the restuarants, laundry service and cleaning service you could ever want. some of the nicer ones where 18000 to 22000 plus electric which adds 1500-3000 baht to cost.. i was in view talay 1, about a 10 minute baht ride to walking street and it was quiet and none of the girls complained about the ride, so just an idea..going back in jan for another 3 months and staying at same place so i'm quite happy and they have a service for 300 baht that will come in and clean the apt for you...

Hi all,

Thanks everybody for the responses.

Chivas - will have a look.

Bazle - I'm afraid I might get a little bored, but I'm also a lazy bastard who couldn't be bothered moving :-)

Cariden - considered Jomtien, but a little too far away from the areas I like to prowl. Also, I like my prowls close to the room in case I need some A/C respite or a quick shit (yes, very anal about my toiletry!)

dv34917 - Excellent comments on VT6, this was exactly the sort of feedback I was looking for and will make me rethink. I have looked at the BVP site and emailed them for some prices. The pics look good. One question; I assume there was no joiner fee? (I will establish this if I book, but have had mixed results ie Bayshore 1st visit no joiner fee, second visit I rang to double check and was told no joiner fee but when I stayed their they hit with it)

Anyway, thanks guys for the ideas.

Dancewatchers.com sounds like it would solve most of everyones quarrels. They have maid services, along with a multitude of other services, at VT6, VT2,VT5, also with penthouses available. I know that everyone I have talked to that have used them, have always been happy, so the prices must be reasonable, and having the different locations, allows you to stay in the area you want, as opposed to just one building.

Maid service in the condos is not what people will expect. Basically, someone will have a contract, most likely from one of the laundries operating there or advertised therein and it is usually a change of bed linen, towels and a quick sweep up and bin empty. Usual charges are Bt250/300 and it is an utter piss take. I think I did it twice in 3 years.

It is an issue with staying in a condo short term as you don't really want to get into buying your own linen. However, daft as though it seems, you can make sure your landlord provides at least 2 sets of sheets etc. and deal with the laundry yourself, dropping it in when you go out. If they won't, then buy a set, it won't break the bank and you can leave it to your favourite TG.
