Has anyone stayed here recently ? What was your experience ??

Is it difficult to get back to late at night from Walking Street etc.

Is it reasonable up to date with good Air Conditioning ??

Any info would be helpful - Thanks

i stayed for 3 nites in 5/09 was neat, clean up to date.. happy to stay again except was a little expensive for pattaya.. it is like the first "stop" after going up the hill out of pattaya so no trouble getting baht busses but i'm not a super late person..

Great place and location is fine. Easy to get around. Room is a suite with separate bedroom, living room and kitchenette. Hence the Bt1450. Good value for a suite, perhaps not if you don't want it nor a pool.

Checked it out on last visit a month ago for future reference.

The rooms are nice with kitchens, seperate bedroom etc. 2 pools, one out the back that looked like it wasn't getting any sun and a large pool out the front of the hotel. The biggest downer was the location. It is about a 10 minute walk to the bars/walking street, longer if trying to cross whatever is the name of that busy road.

10 minutes might not be a long walk, but i am used to staying in places like the Lek, Welkom inn, Sabai lodge etc where you have lots of entertainment as soon as you step out of the hotel entrance, with all the options of a quick baht bus to anywhere. I like spending my afternoons and early evenings wandering around the bars and in and back and forth to my hotel (get some A/C, swim, drag a ST back:-), a little shopping etc.

The RG is stuck out in the boonies by itself, with NOTHING around it. Its in the burbs, no beer bars etc. Some BMs are going to flame me with 'Oh there is a mart just there' and 'if you go just here there is a little bar' but if you have ever stayed in the main 'strip' because of the variety and amount of entertainment with a minutes walk of your hotel, you would be dissapointed.

Every little piece of entertainment would require a 10 minute trip, not a wander down a soi for amusement.

If you go to Pattaya for that 'IN YOUR FACE' experience, you won't quite get it at the RG.

If you want a quieter exeprience and understand there is no in your face entertainment, its probably good value.

That is all fairly accurate. However, there are a couple of bars, restaurants and an internet cafe within a very short walk if you go left out of the hotel. Not that you will find loads of girls there, but perhaps a few. Also there is a good Mexican place just up the road in that direction, maybe 5 minutes walk.

I'm not flaming Slipslopslap, but I would not call a 10 minute walk "out in the boonies". Directly across the street, in addition to the 7/11 are laundry, motorbike/quad rental, a very nice aircon massage place that will also do take out to your room.

The walk to the baht bus is all of 10 metres and you are at Walking Street entrance in only a couple of minutes. The baht bus back actually drops you at the door. Walk is 4 metres.

The RG is not stuck "out in the boonies". IN fact, to get to Walking Street, it is a damn site easier from the RG than a hotel on 2nd Road.

Bigbad,

Have you been to pattaya before, and how long are you going for now?

If no to forst, and few weeks for second, my comments about the in your face exoerience stands. Sta in north or south pattaya, but stay in a hotel where you can immerse yorself. Give us some details of your mongering experience and get some guidance...

You're comparing apples and brazil nuts. One is a hotel with pool and suite rooms and the other is a guest house.

If you are talking about weeks, then speak to them about monthly rates. I know you could get it for 30k a month which is roughly 3 weeks on the FLB rate.

I have stayed at the Residence Garden on all my past trips and have just booked it again for my up coming trip in Feb.

The rooms are huge and i like that there are 2 AC units, one for the bedroom and another for the sitting area. The in room safe is large enough to store a lap top, ipod, camera, papers etc. The staff have always been friendly and helpful and there is always someone at the front desk.

As far as location I have never had a problem I have returned to the room as early as 9 pm and as late as 5 am. There is always baht buses going by. As someone else has posted there is a massage place right across the street, a mini-mart, ATM and great laundry right across the street aswell. On the same side is a small inter-net place if you want to check e-mails etc.

During my last trip another BM and I spent an afternoon checking out some other hotels just to compare and to see what it might be like closer to the action and I have to say nothing compared to the RG. It is close enough to everything without the sounds of music and all the people coming and going.

It's so nice to be able to sleep in aircon without it blowing directly on you. I just leave leave the bedroom door open and the living area unit on.

I am in my sixties, recently divorced & planning my first trip of around 17 days duration in a few months time.

Comfort & safety are important to me.

I agree there is no comparison between the Irish Rover & the Residence Garden in terms of facilities but liked the idea of being near the action for that in your face experience.

Thanks for the comments todate - Very helpful - Keep them coming

It was Tangent, in a post, who recommended me to stay at the RG years ago when i first started to come to Pattaya. I was very pleased with the accomodation and stayed there for all my trips over the following couple of years. I liked the place, the staff and more so the large rooms. The girls seem to love the cooking facilities in the room.

One year I could not get in as the hotel was full. I stayed at the Areca Lodge which was cheaper, more nearer the action and included breakfast, although the rooms was smaller with no living room. I never returned to the residence Garden since. It just is too quite for me.

I stopped going to the Areca lodge last year. The decor has gone down hill rapidly. Too much building works and the slow but sure price increase led me away.

I think the restaurant is a bit overpriced too.

Stayed there on a few occasions and it's a good place generally. Only problem I ever had was the wifi.

There are 2 levels of accommodation and you need to check the prices as there was a hike over the Xmas / New Year period. The rooms are more than adequate and the suites will impress any BF you have for the night.

You will NEVER get locked out as reception is manned 24/7 and the only problem with transport is not getting killed when crossing the road.

You can walk to 2nd road, and then to Walking Street in about 10 - 15 minutes comfortably - by walking (I just cant agree with the boonies comment). Song Taews (baht busses) from Soi Marine or 2nd road will get you there in under 5 minutes. There is even parking if you have a car but be warned the neaby intersection of 3rd road and Jomtien Road (under the fly-over) is VERY dangerous.

Lots of places to eat within walking distance and you can also get a baht bus to Jomtien from outside the front of the hotel.

Cheers 2SS :gulp:

I am staying here at the moment. I have stayed at other places, but keep coming back here. I guess it falls under the value for money IMHO. It is quiet when I like it to be quiet and not being in the middle of the action is for me one of its best qualities. Right across the road is a Family Mart, a great laundry, a small restaurant and a massage place.

Just tonight when I tried to get into the safe in my room, it kept rejecting my code. After 3 tries it locks it out and you can't try again for 30 minutes. When I tried again it still rejected my code, so I went down to the desk to ask them to come and open it with a key. They sent a maintenance guy straight up and he said they not have key. Next thing I know he is bringing tools to drill it, which got it opened. So I pull my stuff out, he unbolts it and within about 45 minutes, had a new safe installed. All nice and tidy and one of the other reasons I really like RG. I have never had a problem they weren't able to solve or give me help for.

QUOTE [N3RGT] DITTO

When I was staying at R.G last time my electronic safe became jammed and no matter what, I couldn't get it to open with the correct code I was inputting.

I called reception and they sent the handyman.

We tried various combinations of the code I had set up but without success. He then disappeared and returned with an electric drill.

It was quite an operation as he drilled right into and through the central figure 5 key on the key pad firstly with a pilot hole,

and then a quarter inch diameter drill. This somehow freed up the mechanism, and opened the safe. He unbolted it and then installed a replacement unit. No hassle and no extra charges from the hotel for this. I gave him a good tip for his trouble.

Another feather in the cap of R.G for it's total no hassle type policies, and civilised attitude of the staff.
