Updating a Jail Broken iPhone

Recommended Posts

Hello all. Just a general question for some. When I purchased my iPhone in Thailand, they said "Do not upgrade it!" period. Now, I see on the Cydia sight, that there is a way to upgrade to 3.1.2, if you use Pwnage Tool. Has anyone done this? Success? Phone fucked? Was it difficult?

Reason I am asking, is that all the cool new Apps only run on the new version. It really pishes me off I can't download them.

You can Jailbreak 3.1.2 with Blackra1n which you can get from http://blackra1n.com/

It works well and its easy to do however once you do it your phone will not restart without running Blackra1n again. (Every time you want to restart your phone). Although that is a bit of a pain its not much of a problem as I am never far from a computer and I never restart my phone. Ran out of battery once but a simple matter to plug it into the computer and run Blackra1n again.

Expect a better solution soon.

Have just got done reading about the Blackra1n as a matter of fact. Hmmm, can not restart without it. That would be a pain in the arse. I do have to restart a lot, as I run some of the bigger Apps and they hang once in a while. I guess I will wait and see if they come out with something better in the next month or so.

In China now, you can get licenses iPhones through a Chinese provider, so no need to JailBreak them. Is there a licensed provider in Thailand as of yet? I might just give this phone to my wife, and get a new one that is licensed?

I do like the phone though. I very rarely get my lappy out when traveling now. I can do all my Word and Excell docs on the phone and then just email them to myself. Only wish I could run my SolidWorks software on it. :D

Stinky, if you mean by licensed that it will run on any network, then yes you can buy them now in Thailand. My phone is like that and I got it in Central on the second floor (32,000 for 3gs). I believe True are also selling non-specific network iphones as well.

That means I don't have to jailbreak my phone to use it on AIS (which is what I do) however I still choose to jailbreak it to get access to Cedia apps and also because in version 3.1.2 tethering (using iphone as modem for a lap top) is disabled (so network providers can charge more for this service) PdaNet app restores this functionality but will only run on a jailbroken phone.

I really want to upgrade my phone to 3.1.2, but am a little worried about stuffing it up. I wonder if the lads at Tukcom are privy to doing this now? If not, I might break down and visit your gaff to pour free drinks down your throat, in hopes you will upgrade it for me. :o
