All right, I finally decided to take the plunge. If half of what I see here is true it'll be a great time. Does anyone know a guest-friendly, bungalow type place to stay? I don't mind paying a little more for a nice place, but the highly rated hotels and bed and breakfasts seem like they'll hassle you. There's got to be a nice place run by a crusty Aussie expat (or whatever) who knows what the deal is. Any ideas?

The range is huge in Pattaya, what do you want? A reasonable standard room with air-con etc. is not going to cost the earth, in fact, you'll be surprised what you can get for B500 upwards.

i think he means hassle for taking people back to top end hotels i.e joiner fee, guest fee.

you will be spoilt for choice once you are over there, i mean almost every other building is a hotell!!

I have been on my 3rd trip to Patts and what I look for is Cheap, air con, room safe , clean and girl friendly. I have stayed at 2 places, Metro Apartmentnts in LK Metro just off Soi Buakoaw (around 600baht a night) and Secrets Hotel (700-1000 baht a night.)First is a little quieter and the second in the bowels of Walking Street. Neither has a pool (which is not a need for me). Areca Lodge on Soi Diana is a fully fledged traditional hotel with a pool but a fair bit more expensive(closer to 1500). I personally prefer places like Ive suggested. I suggest you pick out 2 or 3 you like and post again asking for specific feedback.

I probably wouldn't stay in this place because it will be away from the action for a newbie and a pain in the bum transport wise. Pick a place and book for 3-4 days and then look around on arrival on where you might want to stay longer term. Over and above what I said earlier I look for (clean, air con, cable , room safe, girl friendly ) I would add free WiFi and and easy access to convenient baht bus routes. If you see a place you like and the are silent on girl friendly, email and ask or ask for feedback here on specific hotels.

I have the feeling the OP might think that only the dingy sleazy hotels cater for the sex tourist.

 

Every Hotel in Pattaya is girl friendly eg will let you bring a girl back to the hotel, a minority charge extra for bringing a girl back for the night eg a joiner fee.

 

Pattaya is a sex town , everything is out in the open . You can stay at a top class hotel and most of the quests will be sex tourists who bring multiple partners to stay during their duration.

 

If you want to stay at World Class Hotels, the Marriott, Tim Boutique, Dusit D2 , Hard Rock are all 5 star Hotels that don't charge a joiner fee (from reports i have read)

 

The next level down eg 4 to 4.5 Star Hotels their is hundreds of quality hotels to choose from that virtually none will charge a joiner fee.

 

At the lower end there are some quality guesthouses and 3 star Hotels.
