Bar Up For Grabs, Take Over Payments

Recommended Posts

Sounds like the 1 baht will get you the stock on hand and the furnishings. Key money sounds like another term for prepaid rent. I took the 200k and divided by 36 which equals a little less than 6k a month. Add the 6k to the 12K and divide by 30 and it equals 600 baht a day. So one would have to sell enough drinks a day and have barfines minus commission to cover the 600 baht rent, wages, cost of goods and other overhead to break even.

Just to pay for the bar you need to be making 600 baht every day. Do-able? Probably, but it's not in the best of locations. and there are a lot of extra costs on top that need to be considered.

Location, location, location is the best principle for choosing where to have a bar. Otherwise you can struggle.

I used to have a bar on New Plaza...... not a bad location, but it was hard to compete with the bars down the middle. I was lucky, we sold that bar for a profit.

On moving to a complex on Second Road we got much more passing trade and didn't need to compete with the neighbouring bars so much. Yes, the costs increased a bit, but the increase in turnover was able to cover those costs easily.
