What a start to the baseball playoffs!

Recommended Posts

Only walked one man.

This is the first no-hitter in post season since Don Larson's perfect game in 1956 and the second post season no-no in history.

Oh, btw, this was his first post season appearance and the team he no-hit is the best hitting team in the National League.

He also pitched a perfect game in May.

What a pitcher!

Great start indeed by the Doc. He'll he kicking himself for that unearned walk for sure.

And the Rays got a shock - no surprise by me, but I don't think Tejas is actually going anywhere beyond St Pete, that's the loser's bracket.

I think.

I think Texas can beat Tampa but I am not convinced the Yankees can get by the Twins. O say Twins go to the series.

In the NL, I have to root for my Giants but I think Philly is the best team in the NL.

Did you get a chance to watch the games today?

Yep. Watching the Minnesotas as I type. I think Yankees - Phillies, but that's the safe bet. I still think Cincinnati has a chance. I'll be very mildly surprised if the blonde-haired people get past the Yankees, I really will. For one thing New York is not starting Burnett.

But hey, as the noted philosopher Christopher Berman spoke: That's why they play the game.

I was thinking the same thing earlier about "that's why they play the game" but I disagree about the Yankees. They are getting long in the tooth. I think Twins and Phils but I hope for Giants and Yankees.

Yankee ages:

Got a brief groan out of the MLB.com headline: Doctober

Yet another post season win by the Yankees on a less than stellar performance by CC.

I'm starting to feel sorry for poor old morose Garden Hose every time he has to walk to the mound after the sixth inning in the playoffs. He really LOOKS like he knows it's inevitable - and has for a few years.

I don't think age has anything to do with anything in the very light schedule of playoffs. If these guys are healthy on Oct 1, they can be 10 years older and not feel a thing. They get two, three days off a week ferpetesake.

Halliday labors for 12 years with the Blue Jays, never sniffing the play-offs, then, in his first post season game, throws a no hitter. Amazing. clap1

Well... He completely re-invented himself and his pitching, and threw a perfect game. After that, it was all a level surface. He's a brand new guy this year, and it sure shows.

I didn't realize it until today but the Twins are owned by NY:

"...the Twins haven't won against the Yankees -- at least, not nearly enough. In eight seasons under Gardenhire, the Twins' record in the series is 16-50, including 5-27 in New York and 2-9 in the postseason."

Sigh. Top of the 7th as I type, after nearly 6 great innings, and now Minnesota goes to their third pitcher - of the inning! 4-2 Bombers. It's just like there is no way Minneapolis is ever going to riot over a playoffs victory. It just FEELS inevitable.

That's why I said we were happy to play the Twinks instead of facing the Rangers and Cliff Lee twice in 5 games.

Yet another post season win today-at least the Twinks have a chance for a win with Phil Hughes going next.

The Giants beat the Braves 1-0 with Tim Lincicum throwing 14 strikeouts in a 2 hitter. Go Giants!

The Giant's have been playing like this for over a month. Pitching, good defense and just enough hitting.

I think we can take the Braves but the Phils are tough!

In August, Lincecum became LinceBUM but he righted the ship and had a fantastic September (and now first playoff performance).
