3rd Party Insurance

Recommended Posts

I have been told if a farang has an accident its always his fault, can you get 3rd party accident insurance in Thailand if so an recomendations.

Thanks kissing

You've been told wrongly but you MUST have third party insurance for your car or truck in Thailand, it's mandatory, and you MUST display proof via a sticker on the windshield, it's mandatory.

You can get minimum third-party when you get your licence plates, from the government office. There are a tonne of insurance companies that will sell you more, here's a partial list. I use AIA but I've never used/collected so who knows if they're good or not?

Is compulsory 3rd party liabilty insurance for other people injured in a motor vehicle accident caused by a negligent driver, or additional non compulsory 3rd party insurance that covers others property ??

When i bought my motorcycle i got a PVR insurance slip for a few hundred baht. Does anyone know what this actually covers and how much. Is it only third party injuries or injuries to yourself, and if so how would you make a claim?

I'm not sure just what you mean.

The mandatory third-party insurance required for every four-or-more wheeled vehicles covers NOT the driver and NOT the insured vehicle - that's the core meaning of "third party". It means passengers in the insured vehicle and anyone/anything outside the vehicle involved in the audience. If your car hits another car and it's your fault (or possibly no fault), then the guy in the other car gets paid from your insurance. That's what "third party" is. Negligence has nothing to do with it, as it's the vehicle that is covered, not the driver.

If you own a car/pickup and you do NOT buy "additional" coverage, including first and second party AND more third-party you're crazy, that's my opinion. But it is not legally mandatory.

Chris, I don't know "PVR", probably because I don't ride in Thailand and haven't for a long time. But third-party insurance for motorcycles, same as anything else - you are NOT covered, only the guy you hit is. In general it's very hard (not to mention cost) to get good vehicle coverage for motorcycles at all, and hellishly hard to get comprehensive insurance, i.e. first-party. If you don't know what you've got, then you definitely don't have it.
