I did find it somewhat ironic though, that you have to go to the men's game to find players rolling around on the deck like "big girls" after any kind of tackle; yet the real girls don't do it!

Lampard's goal not being given in 2010 in South Africa, when England played Germany, was the greatest injustice in football since England won the World Cup in 1966 thanks to a goal given against Germa

Carli Lloyd leads U.S. to Women's World Cup title in 5-2 win over Japan. She scored three goals.

Uh,yeah!

Say UK and then USA.

Russia is a fucking joke and Cat Tar is beyond belief.I won't even get into how screwed up FIFA is in making those choices.

Gee,I wonder if Israel qualifies, will Cat Tar ban them?

Guess Brazil will be my last WC and I hadn't planned on attending that one in favor of UK and then USA.

Cat Tar is demolishing it's stadiums after the WC and building them in several locations.Must be nice to have that kind of dosh.

Here's a list of their stadiums:

Some comments so far:

QATAR???? 120 degree weather, a population half the size of the number of people who attend the World Cup...can you even drink in Qatar? How close has Qatar ever come to even qualifying for a WC????? This better be some kind of peace mission to the Middle East rather then yet another thing oil money bought.

Alcohol only exists in bars that are in the actual hotels; there is no alcohol at restaurants in the streets. But it will cost you about $15 for a henieken.

2 worst choices got it....

Quatar is the size of a peanut and Russia is the size of a field of peanut plants..... One is freezing cold (the 2 months it's not, filled with mosquitoes) and the other one is boiling hot... Both need to build and will have a hard time infrastructure-wise or to house people or to get them to games...

What do those countries have in common: filled with bribe money on the front end but nada real profit potential on the back end...

We're going from Brazil to Russia to Quatar... And not a single soul at Fifa thinks about the careers of players who deserve to have a tournament played in mild, top football conditions...

It's a royal shame.....

I just bought 10 yards of fabric going on for sale at WalMart to wrap my head up so I can attend some matches in 2022 and go unnotticed.

Russia is a good choice though.

With Asia hosting 2002 and 2022 I wonder about the chances for China in 2026 now. The logic says it will be CONCACAF in 2026 with Mexico or the USA as the only contenders unless Canada wants to put up a show similar to the 1976 Olympics.

My guess is that Qatar could care less if football fans come. It will be an elitist viewing event in a controlled, closed society. They can import foreigners to fill the stadium.

World Cup 2026 - Vatican City

I have a new hope and a new dream. I am not one that you would consider extremely environmentally inclined, but I now dream of Electric cars and the emergence of alternate fuel sources for the next 12 years. The Middle East is spending money in the most arrogant and ignorant way for a fuel source that is neither renewable nor definitively sustainable (I'm aware that they have gobs of it though). Here's to science and rendering oil unnecessary to life. I'm really glad Qatar will build 10 stadiums that will never get used again.

In the end, 4 or 5 potentially awesome hosts were denied. Is there a more corrupt and inept LEGAL organization in the world than FIFA? Seriously?

Qatar is a joke of a host. They've never qualified for a World Cup, only made it past the First Round in the Asia Cup once, and their domestic league makes MLS look like the Premier League. Money certainly talks.

"There is one liquor store, Qatar Distribution Centre, in Doha. To purchase things there, you must have a license that can only be obtained by having a written letter of permission from your employer. You can only get a license when you have obtained your residency permit and you will need to get a letter from your employer confirming your salary in addition to paying a deposit for QR1000. The selection is good and is like any alcohol selection of a large supermarket in the West. Prices are reasonable although not cheap. Alcoholic beverages are available in the restaurants and bars of the major hotels, although they are pricey. As far as non-alcoholic drinks go, be sure and hit some of the Indian and Middle Eastern restaurants and juice stalls. They whip some tasty and exotic fruit juice combinations that really hit the spot.

It is forbidden to bring alcohol in to the country as a tourist; at Doha airport customs xray bags and will confiscate any bottles of alcoholic drink. They will issue a receipt valid for 2 weeks to reclaim the alcohol on exit from the country."

Tough break.

For FIFA,it's all about the MONEY!

Soccer/football is an afterthought.

Imagine the hotel/beer prices......

In addition to the game itself, the WC is a celebration.I simply can't imagine the kind of atmosphere in Cat Tar that was at the ones I've attended.

What a fucking shame.

Only the BBC would bring out a T.V programe just before the FIFA decision, to scupper the England bid.

Well I'm sure Walking street must be a riot tonight.

Supporters will enjoy flying on Aeroflot to get to their teams next game.

We've all seen the friendly Russians in Pattaya. They will make wonderful welcoming hosts, I'm sure. :thumbup

The Times has an article today about Russia's 'Mafia State' being laid bare by those leaks in WikilLeaks. Pity is wasn't a few days ago, it might have made a difference to the vote. :allright

There again Sepp Blatter being called a useless c##t by just about every supporter in England after the Germany game, probably didn't help matters. :allright

"Basically, oil and natural gas won today. This was not about merit, this was about money," former U.S. national team star Eric Wynalda said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. Qatar "is a country that is really going to struggle to host this event. A successful World Cup would mean the attendance would be twice the population."

Qatar, which has promised to overcome heat of up to 130 degrees with air conditioned outdoor stadiums, led on every round of balloting that initially included Australia, Japan and South Korea. The lowest vote-getter was eliminated after each round until only the U.S. and Qatar remained. Qatar won the final vote 14-8.

Again,fucking amazing!

It's all about the money..........the games themselves are an afterthought.

"On behalf of millions of people living in the Middle East, thank you," Qatar bid chair Sheikh Mohammad bin Hamad Al-Thani said. "Thank you for believing in us, thank you for having such bold vision. ... Thank you also for acknowledging this is the right time for the Middle East. We have a date with history which is summer 2022." "Thank you again for accepting the 2nd largest bribe amount in WC history, only surpassed by Russia for the 2018 bid".

Qatar, which has never even qualified for a World Cup, used its 30-minute presentation to underline how the tournament could unify a region ravaged by conflict. -Gee,to me you'd want to end the conflict first (LOL) AND THEN bring the WC......

England received just two votes and was eliminated first, with Russia getting nine, Spain-Portugal seven and Belgium-Netherlands four. Russia received 13 in the second round, winning the vote because it had a majority.

Before the Fat Controller opened the first envelope I said to the family, Russia and then Qatar

"How can you be so sure" was the retort

In one word Baksheesh.

Until the "real" football world wakes up and purges the corruption from FIFA

this will happen again and again.

well it,s official russia to host the 2018 world cup

and qutar to host the 2022 world cup

So the Chicago Olympics are going to be held in Rio, and the US World Cup is going to be held in Qatar. That Obama guy is on a sports roll, and that's not mentioning he got 8 stitches playing basketball with boys, and the next day only played with girls. I wouldn't mention that.

I can't believe the bitch who screamed in glee a second before Blatter said the word "Russia". Was she Russian? Did she know the result already? Seems to me that whoever had won the nomination she would have screamed with joy. Stupid bitch.

I don't give two hoots where the competition is held, spare me all this nonsense.

What a fucking joke FIFA is awarding the WC to a "country" of 1.5 million people. :banghead :clueless

About time the real world held their own World Cup. The whole FIFA "vote" system is flawed and open to abuse. :hairout

an article i just read makes the points that as far as england's bid was concerned what is most embarrassing is that we courted, toadied , licked every crevice and wrinkle of sep bladders arse and played fifa on their own corrupt and crawling terms. kow towing and craven. we had our prince, and our prime minister grovelling like gollum. fifa wanted no forex checks or charges on any currency brought in to the uk ...........sacks of untraceable cash. we a 'greed' of-course. did us no good and serves us right....som nam na england.

he makes the point that only australia's bid lost by more in the first ballot. ......./ that's australia.... the world's greatest sporting nation who organised 'still' the best ever olympics/....... and that the uk is 20th and australia is 19th in freedom of the press leagues...........'catarrh' are 120th and russia 20 places below that. the panorama team would have been shot in russia. so let's give 'em the world's 'biggest' event fifa..

'septic bladder' will be dead by 2018 anyway so he doesn't give a monkey's.

platini hates the premiership ........

...........so all we could expect from from giving an ungrateful world the game was 'nul point'

and so the world cup after brazil, will lurch from the land of queue jumping and vodka, to halal kebabs and the hunt for a hotel /one of the 5/ that sells beer............

in the end good luck to 'em both............there are some pluses to both choicies.........it's just that i don't believe for one second it was the pluses that carried the day for that dirty lot in zurich.

Yes of course it was the BBC that turned the tide. Russia never had a chance until the BBC torpedoed Britain and the whole world turned against the British for the World Cup.

Do you really believe that codswallop?

We spent 15 million in the bid

we had Prince William do a speech

David Cameron attend

David Beckham do a speech about when his grandad take him to see football as a child

ENGLAND GET REAL !!!!! THE REST OF THE WORLD DONT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT THE PEOPLE ABOVE :chogdee

Fifa would have been invited to see the facilities in Russia, first class hospitality

top escorts would be provided to make them feel at home, champagne and caviar then an envelope with expences

must be great working for Fifa :llaugh

The English member of FIFA Geoff Thomson, told our Head of the English bid, that the last thing Sepp Blatter told the voting council prior to their vote, was not to forget the scrutiny FIFA has had with the British media.

The last thing FIFA members want is a media that will prod around their garden, looking for creepy crawlies under a bush.

Too few people, too secretive, too open for corruption.

Sepp Blatter wanted Russia, to expand FIFA. ( and his bank balance)

Surely the 2020 appointment, of a country. where it is too hot to stay in the summer, does not allow supporters to drink alcohol, was considered a high risk venue by FIFA, due to the heat for players and spectators, is an indication that perhaps the decisions were not made on merit alone.
