I grabbed this from another board...

Today, the new FB Privacy setting called "Instant Personalization" takes effect. The new setting shares your data with non-FB sites & it is automatically set to "Enabled". Go to Account>Privacy Settings>Apps & Websites>Instant Personalization>edit settings & uncheck "Enable". BTW, if your friends don't do this, they will be sharing info about you as well. Please copy & repost

I don't like the smug mug of the stealing Facebook founder and this is just one more reason why I'll be resisting signing up for his site.

Thanks for the warning FatherMojo. I have adjusted my settings.

A few days ago I got a smiley appear with 'funny pic'....it appears to be a 'malaware virus' that my FB account has picked up. I have tried a few things to get rid of it....including changing my password and my email password....but it still seems to be sending out this message to my friends on FB?

I may have to completly shut down the account and start another one.

Does anyone know how else I can fix this problem?

Cheers

Go back into your settings. You may have an app you didn't know you had. When I went to check my account, I checked the apps, I had two, even though I have never approved any. I have all apps blocked now. If you are a game player, you can remove the ones that you don't want, or recognize. Apps are easier to get on FB than virus's and some apps are malaware. Hope it helps

This must be on the new FB set up as I followed your instructions and got "Note: instant personalisation is not yet available for you.. " Thanks for the heads up anyway.

Glyn.

Same for me Glyn, perhaps they are rolling it out by region and for those of us in the UK our turn is coming.

PS Thanks for the heads up Mojo

I just checked my apps. I had 2 apps, one was something in Thai :clueless and the other was from the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. I remember watching a stream of some events and in trying to make a comment, the system asked if I wanted to connect via Facebook. I think that is the hook, a simple question if you want to connect via FB and then your data is being passed around. Might be better to have more than one account using different names. As recommended double check your settings and remove apps that seem overly zealous in gathering information. Below is what the Vancouver app was looking at.

Access my basic information

Includes name, profile picture, gender, networks, user ID, list of friends, and any other information I've shared with everyone.

Access my profile information

Likes, Music, TV, Movies, Books, Quotes, About Me, Activitie...s, Interests, Groups, Events, Notes, Birthday, Hometown, Current City, Website, Religious and Political Views, Education History, Work History and Facebook StatusSee More

Access my contact information

Online Presence

Access my family & relationships

Significant Other and Relationship Details and Family Members and Relationship Status

Access my photos and videos

Photos Uploaded by Me, Videos Uploaded by Me and Photos and Videos of Me

Access my friends' information

Birthdays, Religious and Political Views, Family Members and... Relationship Statuses, Significant Others and Relationship Details, Hometowns, Current Cities, Likes, Music, TV, Movies, Books, Quotes, Activities, Interests, Education History, Work History, Online Presence, Websites, Groups, Events, Notes, Photos, Videos, Photos and Videos of Them, 'About Me' Details and Facebook Statuses

Seems like FB allows apps to ask for everything.

Hi Lovedog

Many thanks for your help and advice......however I am not a game player...nor do I use anything other than chat or share photos.

Today I got a message from a family member in Sydney that I had sent her some porno photos.......which of course I did not send.

So I now believe that I have been 'hacked'......ie; someone is in my account and sending off emails at liberty.

I dont know much about viruses or hackers......but I do know that I never sent any porno pics or many of the messages that were went from my account.

I had no option....I have deleted my FB Account....and will re-new my account in a slightly changed name.

A lot of my friends are now experiencing the same symtoms as I had........including my 15 yo daughter.....she googled her problem...and is onfident she has solved it?

I am not good with computers!!!!

I'm not a game player either, but had two apps installed on facebook. I did have my account accessed once from the US and FB notified me. I changed my password then. Maybe it's not on facebook, but just uses it. Do you use antivirus? Can you have your daughter look at your computer?

One of the reasons I think it's an application installed is because it gives them access to all your information, then hackers can spoof a message from you. If they really came from your account, you would have copies of the sent messages in your sent folder. Check your sent folder, and check for apps.
