Hi,

I've enquired about the Welcome Plaza, standard room rate for the beginning of April and have been quoted 1150 baht per night which seems a bit steep to me. Has anybody else enquired about rates and if so, does this seem right?

I have e-mailed them and asked if they could improve their prices but now I am getting no response at all.

For your sake I hope it has improved - I stayed there in 2004 and it was a dump; much better options nearby, Sandy Spring, PBR, Mike Hotel etc. Good luck with your trip.

I used to stay there all the time, and in 2000-2006 I could always get a room for 600-650 baht for a walkin rate. I probably stayed there 14 times - They have a great pool, great location, and the rooms are big(but a bit worn). But in recent years, prices are a bit up, and there are nicer places for the same money.

If you stay for a month or more, a condo rental gets you a great place for the money.

Agoda price fior early April for a standard room is £16 per night, much better than 1150 babt.

Glyn.

I always advise people to only book for a few days, then extend if you like the place. Unless it's the peak of high season, hotels will allow you to extend at the same rate you got through agoda. There was a thread on another board where a BM had booked through agoda for a 14 day stay, then a week before wheels up, he had to cancel his trip. Agoda would not refund money paid, even with a weeks notice. Those thinking of staying in an untried place should look for hotels that are recommended by other board members. Website pictures are often old, and show the hotel when new, not 5 or 10 years later. BM's often post pictures that are up to date, along with their assessment of the hotel and staff. A long as you are a member here, you might as well make good use of this forum.
