I disagree............The Warmington-on-Sea, Home Guard could do the job......It just needs the will to do it. But the vast majority of FIFA delegates are, it appears, either embroiled in the corruption or too craven for that to happen.

Exactly right. One person or one group cannot be corrupt on its own. Every FA is corrupt. Every *club* that releases its players for Fifa-sanctioned matches is corrupt. Every TV network that bids for the Fifa matches is corrupt. The players are delighted to take millions from Fifa.

At the end of the day, every soccer fan that hands over $45 or 25 pounds or 800 baht to watch his team play in a Fifa-arranged match of any kind is corrupt. What is this "oh, woe, the government won't do anything" BS anyhow? If football followers stop giving money to Blatter and stop buying goods from the TV sponsors, corruption will end.

I did suggest e-mails to Emirates and Visa by disgruntled customers a few posts back, they are the main sponsors.

I never said the Government won't do anything, I said it can't, same as it can't riegn in the Banking industry. Fifa is a self elected, self regulated outfit.

I have just paid £160, for 23 home games at Brentford. That includes £5 membership of Bees United, the organization for the fans that own the club, The going rate for the Prem' is about £45 per game. I pay just under £7.

Your suggestion of cutting off the money supply by the fans wont work, because the big money comes from other sources. 30,000 through the turnstile, 30 million watch on TV. In every city, from Amsterdam to Zurich !

It does need Corporal Jones and his bayonet - The old cold steel, they won't like it up 'em. ! :yikes:

I fully understand part of that. Soccer fans aren't going to stop watching the game. All I'm saying is that corrupt people are calling the corrupt Fifa people "corrupt". It's hypocritical, really.

But the "big money" *all* comes from football fans (and soccer fans, heh) around the world. Stockholders of Visa *could* do something about that, for example. I know England followers aren't going to boycott, or aren't going to demand an end to England internationals. But sponsors get their money from those people.

It's a bit much to demand that all fans organise, and I know that, and I'm only reminding them of their hypocrisy. But it's not too much to ask the shareholders of sponsors of national teams to take a stand. For example. It's not too much to expect that the national media of many countries could do a service by exposing WHERE Fifa's money comes from, i.e. its national members. What if the multi-millionaires who play the game threatened, just THREATENED to strike over lack of morals and ethics?

What galls me is that everyone hates Blatter, but that's as far as it goes. As if money just falls into his hands from a vacuum.

I get the point but you go too far........You wouldn't call the congregation 'corrupt' because the vicar spent the 'collection' on a toy boy rather that the church roof.

FIFA wasn't set up to 'be' corrupt...........The corruptors.............do not deserve to have our contumely deflected.

I do disagree with this. The congregation would (almost always) get rid of that vicar (or take other steps; redemption is always possible) precisely because they could not stomach his corruption. If they did NOT deal directly and harshly with him, that would be an acceptance of the corruption and, at the very least show that the congregation had sunk to the same low, base, unethical and immoral level.

Football fans are another step or two away from Blatter, compared with your congregation and the thieving vicar. Because of that, the fans cannot organise themselves to act as the congregation would surely act. Still, I insist the point holds.

FIFA wasn't set up to 'be' corrupt...........The corruptors.............do not deserve to have our contumely deflected.

But we now know that the way Fifa was set up allowed it to become corrupt. I insist that "we" share more responsibility (call it blame if you want) than flinging around contumely. We are pretty well powerless over Fifa, maybe, but we have power or at least influence with the FAs.

We are now up in arms about FIFA after the last W.C draw.

Yes, there is no doubt there has been some compliance from within the FA and others F.A's about the questionable deeds of the FIFA executive in the past. This had a 'blind eye' policy from those who should have tried to do something about it.

It was not until the blatantly corrupt voting in the last appointment of the 2018-22 venues, that it became such public knowledge.

The reason The Times newspaper chose this event, to expose the corruption, was because it had the attention of the world on the draw, last December. " FIFA is Corrupt!" headline at any other time, would not have had the same impact as it did then.

Their exposure before the draw was the best way to get proof of their accusations. The Russian and Qatar successful bids, was 'proof of the pudding' for the newspaper.

I would like to think that subsequent revelations from the FA and others, have put pressure on Blatter, that was not previously there. To use his words " I have had my hand slapped "

Jack Warner and others would still have their snouts in the trough. Who knows who's next ? I hope it is the start of more exposures and the departure of more crooks. The thin edge of the wedge.

As a bye the bye , I think most sports governing bodies are tie wearing blazers, who are a bunch of Buffoons. Football, horse racing, Tennis, Cricket........

Laurel and Hardy could do better ! :banghead

Yeah, nothing pixxes people off more than paying a very large bribe and then not getting what you bribed for, eh? I'm not being sarcastic. One of the hugest reasons that corruption is so ingrained and, well, successful in Thailand is EXACTLY because both parties live up to their agreement, in full. Up to then, it's not corruption. But let one of the parties not deliver and THEN they are corrupt.

Fifa strung the England FA (and others) along. Then they didn't (couldn't, really) deliver the goods to all those who had bribed them for so long.

But not Fifa, obviously.

I think you're being a bit selective with your criticism. Qatar's successful bid for 2022 was put in place by an Englishman. Are you suggesting/inferring he, and the rest of the bid team, were/are corrupt? :clueless

Obviously, FIFA's own Ethics Committee must take some responsibility. Who was the Chairperson again? :whistling:

The bid team may not have an insight- effect as to what is being done behind closed doors. For instance, Desmond Tu Tu was getting money from Australia and Qatar, on the understanding he will push their case for 2022 bid. He was not even on the race card to affect the outcome. The bid team are a front. I don't believe the make up of the team has any effect on the result. It could be the Yorkshire Ripper, for all the FIFA executives care.

Okay tom, let's pretend England put in exactly the same case for the 2022 WC as Qatar.

We have no stadiums built, it will be 40c+ in July, our population would fill Wembley Stadium about 6 times and we have never played in a W.C. We are not a footballing nation.....

Subsequent events have shown I was right to question this decision back in Dec last year. There is talk of moving the 2022 WC to winter, for the first time ever and even suggestion of re-selecting the 2022 venue altogether. Can you imagine England requesting the W.C be re- sched' for January ?

" Let me get this right Mr Beckham and Prince William, you have no stadiums, unbearable heat in July, no footballing history.... Well you had such a good bid team, we are giving it to you anyway. "

" We thought about Australia, because they are a sporting nation, never held the W.C, played in several previous WC's - rugby included and of course July would be in their Winter, with a fair climate for football, but...."

Yes, that's what you said when Mike Lee offered to front England's bid. Bad call on your part. :allright

Ooops .... another bad call on your part. England had David "Brylcreem" Beckham and Prince Who?, whilst Qatar had Zidane, de Boer, Guardiola, Batistuta etc etc. Get the idea?

They addressed all those issues in their bid document.

" Let me get this right Mr Mandela, you have no stadiums, unbearable heat in July, no footballing history.... Well you had such a good bid team, we are giving it to you anyway. "

There, I fixed it for you.

I find it laughable that you continually harp on about corruption in FIFA when the main man in your bid team (Sebastian) was the previous head of FIFA's Ethics Committee.

Why don't you highlight corruption within the IOC? After all, you suggested that having stadia already in place was a requirement to put on a major sporting event. Or does that only apply to those pesky Arabs?

As for your 40 degrees plus argument - you fucked that argument up when you chose Qatar over Wembley to play Brazil last time round.
