Gidaye fellas,

Apart from the fun that I will be encounting in Pattaya 15 days to go, does anyone have a suggestion which is the best of the go kart tracks available?? I am a bit of a petrol head plus need to dispose of some aggression.

Cheers

It depends what you want - a good track or a fast kart.

Mini Siam has the best track - very technical layout but once you learn the lines you rarely have to use the brakes. Karts are fast enough, better than most you get at public tracks. I combined it with a trip to Mini Siam one evening as it is nicer lit up & its a lot cooler in the karts.

If you want fast karts this is the place to go.

Unless you are a very experienced kart racer I would not recommend you try the fastest kart - it is a real handful. I have competed in car racing & rallying for years & I took one of those karts out but it was extremely difficult to avoid spinning it at the corners. One touch of the throttle on any bend & it was gone. They have fitted hard compound tyres for longevity but they offer little grip. Mind you down the straights it was the fastest accelerating thing I've ever sat in!

After coming in a regular visitor told me that the 2nd fastest karts are a better option for most as they are fitted with aerodynamic aids & are less twitchy. I was intending to go back & try them some day but I haven't yet. BTW you will lose 10kg in sweat & if available hire rib protectors. I left there soaked in sweat with bruised ribs.

I've only used the one near the Bali Hai Pier. I was there for a mate's birthday party, bloody good outing.

In addition to a good track and decent karts they have a bar and you can order food from outsides. IMHO, makes a good day out with mates and the girls.

What are the costs? Haven't done it since I was a kid but I know it's still fun.

At Bali you can buy packages that reduce the costs.......The main track is 1200bt for 2 sessions. Buy 4 and get 5 and so on.

They give you a print out of your lap time and the computer keeps a record of your progression.

There's a fastest daily and monthly list.

My son loves the place. He's not allowed to kart anywhere public on the Gold Coast...he's 12. Technically he's too young at bali as well but they let him try out on an empty track and he's a natural. He has many times in the 42 secs region. Aiming for 41....To do that you need a good kart and a cool evening. I only take him in the daytime when it's likely to be quieter and less drunk, 'would be Lewis Hamiltons' on track.
