Double Entry Tourist visa required fr Laos/Cambodia

Recommended Posts

Hi chaps,

I have got to get a double entry tourist visa soon as my "non-imm 0" visa has expired and now on 30 day stamp which runs out early Oct.

Went to soi buakow visa shop last week and was told that Cambodia have gone more troublesome and want extra items so Laos is best bet.But i have flt tkt home and savings book etc..

Both places are done on all inclusive mini-bus trips, with the Laos trip at 8500bt all inc. Think Cambodian trip was about 6000bt to the nearest border.

Whats my best bet and other options? as not looking forward to a 10 hr minibus trip to Laos!!! Any flt deals to Laos/Cambo?

Cheers 4 now,

There's plenty of up-to-date DIY info on Thai Visa. Basically, fly to/from Udon Thani (for Vientiane) and take things from there.

Sticky, I took a visa run to Lao by van. It has some good points that shouldn't be overlooked. They know what is needed, and will check your paper work before it's turned in, and make sure it's done right. We got express service going threw the border, both ways. They fed us each way, and booked a hotel, which was included. Not a great hotel, but perfectly acceptable, with breakfast included. We got to go into the Thai embassy ahead of everyone else that had been waiting in line for hours. All in all, I think that I got value for my money, even though I had to sit in a van for what seemed like forever.

My trip: I was picked up in the evening, Unfortunately I was picked up last, and had to sit in the back seat. If you have any choice, sit as far up front as possible. The further back you are, the harder the ride is. It was impossible to sleep in the back row because every bump felt like a huge pot hole. Hint: stop by a green cross clinic before you go and get some Valium or some other sleeping agent. Thai's are to stupid to know that they are taking a long trip and need to fill the tank, so 40 kilometers out of town they will stop for gas for 1/2 an hour or more. When you leave there, that is the time to take your sleeping agent. Best if yo have some extra, more than likely there is a loud mouth that will talk the whole way there. Offer him something to help him sleep as well. You already know who he is.

You arrive at the border in the morning, and I had to wait for it to open. We got expressed through it. Then we changed to different vans, I got a brain dead driver that I was sure was going to kill us all. Even though they always told us to get in the same van, I never rode with him again, I held my ground, refused, and let them know why. We went straight to the Thai Embassy, there was already 100 people in line, we filled out our paperwork, it was checked, and double checked. When the gates opened, we were ushered in first ahead of all those that were waiting in line. When we left we went to our hotel, the Vientiane hotel, make sure you take a card, there are several in town, telling a taxi driver the Vientiane hotel does no good. It was old but clean, with a restaurant and bar. I got my room key and went up and discovered I had two twin beds. I went back down to the desk and told them that twin beds not work, I will take lady and need big bed. Of course they didn't want to change rooms, and told me to push the two beds together. I told them that I boom boom to much, beds will come apart, I need big bed. They himed and hawed a bit telling me it was the only room available, then gave in and gave me a room with a full sized bed when they realized I wasn't going away.

We had the rest of the day and night to be tourists. After putting my bag in my room I went down stairs to the bar and had a beer talking and meeting the other guys from the other vans. There must have been 6 vans full of us there. There were a couple of expats in the bar so I asked them where to go for ladies. They all recommended a bar, who's name I can't remember, it was on the river, and on the second floor, they said about midnight the ladies would start showing. A guy in my hotel wanted me to get him some Cialis so I went looking for a pharmacy as I walked around town checking out the town. I tried several with no help, then bought 5 boxes of Viagra for him at 300 baht each. Chinese made, double strength. I walked around a bit longer than hooked up with a couple of young Brits from the vans. We had lunch in a very nice restaurant at a reasonable price. They were wanting Pattaya and wanted to go on a hunt for bars and ladies. I went with them for a few hours, but it was obvious that Vientiane was not Pattaya, and they were to hard drinking for me. I went back to the hotel.

A bunch of us were in there talking and drinking and made plans to go to the Bar on the river that everyone had told us about. One of the guys was a body builder and had heard of a big pharmacy that sold steroids and he wanted to go, since I had gotten my friend Viagra instead of Cialis I went with him to see if they had it. I got mine plus 10 Valium for the ride home. They didn't have steroids, or wouldn't sell it to him. Back to the hotel and waited for everyone to gather together. When we had a big bunch we went out, but in the parking lot, there was a lot of talk about where to go. I wanted to go where the expats, and the people at the hotel said. A couple of other guys had talked to taxi drivers and heard about other places. Our group split in two going different directions. The group I went with tried about five bars expecting Pattaya like places, they were not. Some wouldn't even let a group of farang in. After a while I said that I'm going to the place on the river, I'll see you guys in the morning. I flagged down a tuk tuk, (not what there are called there) and everyone jumped in with me. When we found the bar, it was a nice looking pub, no women in it. It was still early though, we were told midnight, I ordered a beer Lao (good beer by the way) and nursed it. All the Brits at the urging of one, bought themselves one of those big serve yourself beer dispensers. Then they proceeded to see who could finish theirs first. They threw in a couple of shots as well.

We carried the winner, who was also the instigator of the drinking contest, to a tuk tuk and sent him back to the hotel. When we got back upstairs everyone got in a circle, all the Brits except one was hammered, they wanted some action. I tried to explain that we were told midnight, and it was only 11:30, but they would hear nothing of it, they took off to look for some action. At midnight the ladies started filtering in, just as we had been told. Everything was very low key, all the girls are freelancers. A group of young farang and young Lao ladies were sitting at the table next to us. One of the girls seemed to be flirting with me. I struck up a conversation with one of the guys, he was American. I couldn't tell if the group was coupled up or not, so I asked him, will there be ladies available here. He said that all the ladies in the place were available. He was a supervisor for an electronics firm, and the group he was with worked for him. So, I asked again, your friend seems to be flirting with me, is she available? Again he said, all the ladies in the place were available. I called the girl over and asked her if she wanted a drink, she said no, that she had one. Wow, this isn't Pattaya. She did stay and talk though, her English was much better than the average bar girl. After a while she suggested we go to the big disco. Sure why not.

Outside we flagged down a tuk tuk, they look kind of like Thai tuk tuks, but more rickety, like they are ready to fall apart any second. It did break down about half way to the disco. The driver flagged down another tuk tuk and we switched and drove off. The disco is on top of some big highrise hotel, it can be seen for miles around. When we walk in, we are the only people in the place. It's just a big room, all painted black with tables in it. The bar is outside, you buy drinks there, and then bring them in. I'm uncomfortable and am ready to go. The first people to arrive were the guys I was with at the other bar, they had all hooked up with ladies and talked into going to the disco as well. With in a half hour, every seat in the place was taken. I guess that's where everyone goes after the bars close. If you don't find a lady in the first bar, the disco is the place to go, it has a lot of women in it. Otherwise, it's better to take the lady back to the room, no need to drink more, or spend any more money, the disco isn't that much. I asked the girl if she would spend the night with me and she said yes, we finished our drinks and left. I have to say, she was very good,, I got lucky, and she acted like she got lucky as well. In the morning we went for seconds, it was just as good. We showered, and I packed and started to go down for breakfast when she said. Sorry, you pay me now? What? Damn, I thought I got lucky, I had no idea she was working, she has a real job. She wanted 2,000 baht, I wouldn't go for it, and negotiated it down to 1,000, that took some effort. After that, she was my girlfriend again, we went for breakfast along with the other guys that had found ladies. We talked between ourselves some at breakfast, everyone of us were very happy with the lady we had taken, and thought that she had given extra service. Funny, all but one britt was sitting in a corner hungover, only the one that stayed at the bar had found a lady. The others had just gone from bar to bar drinking and looking for action. We were given our stamped passports back and told to start loading in the vans.

Those of us with ladies boarded the vans last, none of the ladies wanted to let go, and none of the men wanted to let them go either. We all rode home on the same bus. All of the girls had traded phone numbers and e-mail addresses, all of them offered to come to Pattaya and stay with us. What a difference from the business like Pattaya girls, to these sweet ladies that truly acted like they liked us. I saw several of the other guys later, all had kept in contact with their Lao girl. Mine wrote many times, and called me several times. One day I'm having breakfast at Crazy Daves, the one English guy that had taken a lady was in there eating. He probably had the least money of all of us that took the visa run. He was teaching English in Pattaya for a very small salary, I couldn't live 2 days on what he was living on for a month. Hell, at the time, my typical FLB check bin was more than he was making a month. In talking to him, he said that he had kept in contact with his Vientiane girl, and that she was on her way to move in with him, traveling as we spoke. She was the prettiest of the bunch, and she knew how much he was living on. Fucking amazing.

Anyway, back to the ride home, when we got to the border, I was worried, I had 10 Valium and 10 boxes of ED drugs. We were skirted around the whole group that were being checked and taken to our vans on the other side. Wish I could have stayed a couple of more days. I enjoyed getting away from the hustle and bussel of Pattaya and really enjoyed the lady I found. The whole thing was well worth the money spent. I always had it in the back of my mind, that if I had to do it again, see if I could go with one group, and then come back with the next group just to spend a couple more days there. Sorry about getting so wordy, you asked a simple question and I wrote a book.
