For Dr Mick ... Thai Smile to Khon Kaen from July 2012?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for info Tom

This is one thing what Khon Kaen miss ,a low cost airline ,at moment only expensive Thai Air.

Will sure be good for the growth of the city .

Even better still if prices can be around air asia price which do not fly out from Khon Kaen

My trips to Pattaya in future would be much shorter.

15 minutes to air port

45 minutes waiting at airport

45 minute flight

90 minute taxi ride to my hotel in Pattaya

So total time about 3 1/2 compare to bus time of about 9 hours ,so this would be great :chogdee

Also maybe this would encourage more of my mates to come up and see me in Khon Kaen in the future :thumbup

But we know this is Thailand so lets hope info below does happen.

Thai Smile is a planned airline in Thailand, operated by Thai Airways International (Thai), that is expected to begin operations in July 2012.

On 20 May 2011, the Thai Airways board announced plans to create a new lower-cost airline, at the time dubbed Thai Wings.[1] The creation of the airline was announced by Ampon Kittiampon, the chairman of Thai's board of directors, on 19 August 2011.[2] It is planned to begin operations in July 2012.[2] According to Ampon, Thai Smile is intended to serve the market gap between low-cost carriers and full service airlines.[2] The name Thai Smile was chosen from a pool of 2,229 entries in a contest to name the airline.[2]

Thai Smile is planned to operate up to eleven Airbus A320 aircraft, with four in the fleet at the start of operations.[3] The aircraft will be outfitted in a two-class configuration, with business and economy seating.[3]

Initially, Thai Smile will fly to domestic destinations only on routes of less than two hours, including Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Surat Thani, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani.[2] By 2013, the airline is planned to expand into international markets in Southeast Asia, with potential destinations including Amritsar, Brunei, Danang, Medan and Penang.[2][3]

According to an official at Thai Airways International, Thai Smile is planned to begin showing an annual profit of about five million baht within two years of the start of operations

Mick,

I think they jumped the gun a bit and decided on the name before doing any research. www.thaismile.com is already taken by a supermarket in UK. rolleyes.gif A bit like No care. (Nok Air).
