No way, Jose. Mangoes (and bananas) aren't long lasters, but the fridge pretty well kills taste and appearance without really extending their lives. .

Hi,

Dont forget tomatoes.

Why not?

No. Seriously. You can put tomatoes in the fridge, and tomatoes will hang around for a while, lot longer than bananas and mangoes anyhow. Some fruit, you really just can't prolong them, once you get them home. Of course ALL fruits and veggies are best consumed the day they hit perfect ripeness, but some can be kept around for a while, some can't.

Hi,

I would never trust anyone who puts tomatoes in a fridge. I know that bananas are picked green and ripen on their way to the market. I always buy a mixture of ripe and green ones.

Interesting. Haven't met anyone quite so religious about it. In Thailand, most tomatoes go in the fridge, most of the time. Doesn't seem to harm them and it does seem they last longer. Mind, there's a teensy bit of difference between a 40-degree Thai kitchen area and a 25-degree western one.

See, there's the thing bothers me more. Put bananas and mangoes in the fridge and the colour is gone, they go brown and black, even if they're still edible they look horrible. Tomatoes stay red or reddish or whatever, you can't tell they've been refrigerated. You certainly have to pick this stuff before it's ready to eat - how much before depends on the distance to travel of course.

Plastic display one, then?

Heh. No, seriously I've never seen one go that distance. Hell, if you can get away with it, go for it.

Hi,

I think it alters the flavour.
