Recommended Posts

Somebody at work read a story yesterday in a British tabloid about a drugs raid having taken place on a Pattaya niteclub and some falangs were arrested . Has anyone got any more info on this ? Maybe it's the news about Cats only reaching the outside world now !

It was the Top Secret Bar.  Not so secret it would appear.  This bar was well known as an after hours place for people who liked the "rave" culture.

Not so smart in Thailand.  They have lost their license permanently and around 12 farangs who tested positive for drugs are in deep do do.

Drug-party tourists to be deported

Published on Aug 20, 2002

Police said yesterday that they would deport a group of foreign tourists who tested positive for drug use following a raid by Bangkok police on a pub in Pattaya.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Purachai Piumsombun threatened to remove the governor of Chon Buri if central police officials were forced to make similar raids on the province's night spots.

Pattaya police chief Colonel Phadungsak Ubekkhanon said 12 foreigners who tested positive for drug use following the raid early Sunday morning on the Top Secret Pub would be charged in court today and would later be deported.

Fifty officers from police headquarters in Bangkok participated in the pub-raid, in which nearly 300 pub-goers, including many tourists, were rounded up. Fifty-eight people tested positive for drug use.

However, before police could finish testing all of the pub-goers, someone sprayed pepper spray in front of an air-conditioner, causing a commotion. The remaining pub-goers took advantage of the situation to make their escape by charging towards the exit and breaking through a glass wall.

Phadungsak said police had arrested a Briton, Neil McCalland, on charges of selling narcotics inside the pub. He said McCalland would be charged and later deported.

He added that police would study a videotape recorded by members of the media who were on hand to film the raid to locate and arrest those who fled.

Major Naradej Klomthooksing, one of the officers who took part in the raid, said he suspected that a corrupt police officer might have given the pepper spray to one of the foreign tourists.

"We are checking this theory. It seems unlikely that someone would have waited so long to spray the pepper spray. They would have done it at the beginning of the raid," Naradej said.

Meanwhile, Purachai said it was the governor of Chon Buri's responsibility to randomly check on the province's night spots to make sure that drugs weren't being sold.

"If officials from the central gov-|ernment are forced to make further arrests without the governor's knowledge and participation, we will consider him negligent in his duties," Purachai said.

The governor, Jadet Insawang, said he had ordered the permanent closure of the Top Secret Pub.

He said he had shut down 20 Pattaya night spots in the past several months for violating the 2am closing time and for allowing drugs to be sold in their premises.
