Yahoo Mail Users in Pattaya Area

Recommended Posts

There is something going on...

I have received 3 SPAM type emails from friends in the area recently, and sadly I clicked on the link in one of them.

Last night my email account sent out a single SPAM to all in my Contacts.

They are there in the sent folder, each email sent to 20 recipients using BCC field.

At the send time shown my computer was shut down.

A virus scan of my computer today found nothing.

My Yahoo account is behaving strangely, it keeps logging me out.

I have managed to change my password and check other things in there.

Not sure yet if this is a problem on my computer, or a Yahoo server issue, this type of SPAM from an apparent friend has been going on for years... I just haven't been the originator before!

Beware of emails with subject line......

Hello

Hey

Did you try an online scan of your computer or did you just use your computer based anti virus? If I was having a problem like that I generally wipe my whole hard drive and reinstall my operating system,I always have everything backed up on another hard drive anyway.

I had a similar problem with yahoo mail, i use windows live or outlook to access mail on yahoo but i also had some contacts on the yahoo mail server, these was the contacts that spam got sent to, i deleted all contacts from yahoo but i still had them on my live account.

This solved the problem, so now i don't have addresses on the yahoo account at all, what i could do is save all the spam addresses on there so they all get a dose of there own medicine.

Nothing un-towards this AM, although Yahoo keeps making me log in again. I have a feeling this is something to do with staying logged in and Yahoo. I have a friend who is having more problems. Not sure a virus can send out Spam when my computer is turned off. Edited by jacko

I'm having the same issue with hotmail at the moment Jacko, ran scans, the lot cannot find any problems, though friends have informed me that they are recieving emails with a link. I have advised them not to open and delete. I will keep you informed mate on any progress on this matter, Oh, happy Birthday :thumbup :thumbup

I've had a similar problem once before. It wasn't a virus. I had signed up to an (apparently) dodgy website and used the same password to sign up as I used on my email that I gave at signup.

I'm a smart guy, and relatively technically savvy, but this one is obvious. Oops.

Well I have always felt myself to be careful. Obviously it got past my SPAM filter, being someone in my contacts. The subject 'fwd' and the fact that this friend does not email often and shares some financial interests was enough to make me take a look.

When I became the spammer, I was shocked to see them in my 'SENT' folder (generally they masquerade as you by replacing the 'from' field), but this looked like someone had access to my account, and the password is unique and unlikely to be cracked. Something sent information from my computer, I have not found that something and am wary now. I have of course turned my Site advisor back on.

I used to work as an engineer and do not like unresolved issues.

I received an email from a friend in my address book who had been dead for about a year. I suspected that some type of virus had gained access to his address book and was spamming his contacts. I didnt open it, fortunately as my pc knowledge is very basic

thanks for the heads up, if I got this problem I would have no idea how to fix it.
