No problem...just stay in the older section.  The Lodge is expanding toward 2nd Rd.  The new area is far enough away from the original section that I am sure there are no problems.  The new part of the hotel took the place of the two tailor shops, Sunny's Internet, and the foot massage shop.  Tore down the old, and building back new.     Roy

Hello everyone,

With the expansion of Sabai-Lodge, does anyone know the current asking rate for their rooms now??

1. Superior - (Old Wing)

2. New Wing - ( 700's series rooms)

I've heard rumors that they have increased their rates again.

Thanks,

BobSJ

Looks like a good price.  I last stayed there two years ago and paid 800 B.

I forgot to mention in my earlier post that the manager told me an exercise room, or "Spa" was to be included in the expansion.     Roy

  • 2 weeks later...

The building to the rear (Soi 1) that was the Sabai Sabai pub has been demolished and a further six-storey, 100 room plus pool extension has now started construction.  Expect this work to last 8 months to 1 year.  The 16 room extension on Soi 2 is now almost complete and is undergoing internals and cosmetic finishes.

Pretty much the same story with the new hotels on the 2nd Road end of Soi 3/4.  Both the Bella Villa Prima and Mike Orchid Resort are blighted by the additional Mike rooms being put up between the two properties.  Should be nice when it's finished but possibly best avoided for now if you like a lie-in.

Concerning the work on Soi 4, at first I thought the new construction was for yet another hotel.  But no.  Looks like the Mike Orchid Resort will be triple the size of the original building alone.  No pile drivers as the pilings are being poured, not driven, thank God.  The noise will start when the cement work is finished and the interior work begins.  The contractor is VERY slow, so look for about a year and a half before the project is finished.  GREAT location, however.  The finished part of the "Resort" is very attractive, but have not seen the rooms.  And they are renting.  Don't know the cost.     Roy

I'm currently staying at Mike's Beach on soi 4 and I hear more construction noise from another project thats going on behind the expansion of the cruise ships on Soi 2.  Fortunately it doesn't start until around 9 AM.

laffnliv,

They are taking guests now at a (very good) rate of 800 baht.  The extension is to be a "Balinese style" resort area and will also house their advertised suites.   The rooms in the main building are very tastefully furnished and all have one double and a single bed.  I'll try and get some pics this week and post them if poss.

If you are willing to put up with the aesthetics of the adjacent construction it is probably a decent choice for the price.
