I am thinking about staying at the Chai Chet Resort Bungalows at Klong Prao Beach on Koh Chang Island in the second half of April (after Songkran). Does anybody have any information on this resort? Is this a nice place or is it a dump? The brochure I have makes is look great but those things lie big-time. If anybody has a different recommendation for accomdations I would like to here about that as well. I am budgeting at 1600 baht per night or less.

Hi Big Al,

I have stayed at Klong Prao beach but not at the bungalows you mention.

We stayed at the Klong Prao Beach resort hotel, which was superb, although the cost of 1800 baht may be more than you want to pay.

The beach itself is gorgeous, over a mile long. The sea is clear and you can wade right out up to your neck and its good for swimming.

Nightlife is very quiet.....nearest bar/restaurant to our hotel was ten minutes walk along the beach so you might wish to raid the go-go's  in Pattaya beforehand for a couple of cuties to accompany you on your trip.

The only resort with any real nightlife is Whitesands about 10 kilometres away but you can hire bikes no problem.

The island is very beautiful and more or less unspoilt...or it was two years ago.I really recommend it as a chance to chill out but go for a minimum of two nights.

I think you would find decent accomodation at Klong Prao or Whitesands for 1600 baht or less quite easily.

Hope this helps.

I spent a few nights at the Koh Chang Cliff Beach Resort.  I was able to negotiate the price down to about 1800 per night.  This place is well worth it.  www.kohchangcliffbeach.com

Cookie Bungalows right on White Sand Beach, 1000 a night, very nice air con room, comfy, clean, nice covered veranda with table, chairs and couch.

Very good restaurant on site with nightly BBQ, fresh seafood. They will bring the menu and the meal to your veranda. Guest friendly, no yuppie snob trip, close to ATM, fruit vendors, internet at Hati's across the road, shops etc etc. Bring a friend, its like a honeymoon.

yes the hotel at cookies is open but its the other side of the road more like a motel with cars and4wd parked underneath.Mc bungalow next door are building a hotel

with swiming pool i stayed in the last of the old fan rooms for old times sake.the beach is still great but they

are cramming the big airco bungalows in,going 5star like

they planned, they are filling every bit of space they can

so unless you are right on the beach you cant see up or down the beach any more, but the big airco bungalows do look good, and they all seem to going in that direction so no cheap options soon.I do wonder how

they can fill all the rooms they keep building in thailand

they are not cheap to stay in anymore.2 years ago there

was not one atm on kho chang now there must be 8 plus 4or5 banks on white sands beach alone, plus 2 7/11s.there are a bunch of beer bars just after the beach ,the 2 at the far end next to the exspensive italian restaurant are good one is owned by an english

guy and his missus nigel nice guy layed back place with a pool table,ok music, next door the kangerroo bar bill an aussie and his missus and a pool table both good places to hang out with ok prices.saying that its fucking exspensive to drink on kho chang in a crappy beer bar

they want 100/110 baht for a vodka orange, one girl

who i brought a drink for in her own or sub letted bar charged me 150 for a barcardi breezer dumb cow

i spent good money and would have continued to spend

and bar fine her,but she had to be greedy so i voted with my feet.so watch what they charge you in the beerbars, but theres plenty of new bungalows and hotel rooms on white sands beach so you should have no trouble finding something though i think they are pricey

There should still be a fair amount of inexpensive -ish accommodation there.

On White Sand Beach, there is the White Sand Resort, RockSands Resort... at the north end of the beach. Nicer there.

I was planning to go to Ko Chang and stay at Chai-chet Bungalows too but then decided to do Ko Samet instead.

For what it's worth a Thai girl I met on face-pic but not in person raved about Chai-chet.  Not a girl looking for an old farang but rather a Thai professional who wrote almost perfect English looking for a young guy for love.

Air con? Is that the bungalows?

Last time I looked he was building a hotel.  Has that been completed?

Bungalows are air-con and IMO many of the others are not worth the extra 800-1000 baht. My TG was quite happy at Cookie and I wasn't there to stare at the room plus the clientele was not uptight whereas at some of the "upscale" joints they think too mut of themselves becoz they are paying more. Same beach, same sun, same trees. In fact, some of the upscale places further south from Cookie have no beach, just rocks.

No, I do not own any part of Cookie :) I just had a memorable 5 days there thinking we were in love 55555

at the north end is if i remember white sands resort

and they still have old style bungalows, start at about

300-350 baht with no toilet or shower, they also have

big aircon bungalows balcony garden etc 3000baht

take a can of raid and spray under the net and go for a beer when you come back the top of the net will be black from dead mozzies and flys. I only stayed one night

in one with a shower toilet, zero maintained since they threw them up ten years ago jerry built but cheap

but a shock after what you can get for your bhat in pattaya

'Cookie' and I go way back.  :)  He's a decent guy.  He has kept beachfront bungalows for me in high season and used his own vehicle to transport me to Trat when I missed the public transport on the island.

A lot of the sand on the south part of White Sand beach has been washed away over the years.  Hence the rocks.

I didn't meet Cookie but I liked his place. Good vibes with no "New Age" psychobabble bullshit like at the Rock Sand end (although you can score at that end of the beach) and good food. I had one of the best meals of my life and I'm a serious eater having lived in France for 4 years in the 90s.

Next time I go to KoChang I won't hesitate to go back to Cookie's and if you will go back that's the best endorsement.
