Not the harshest punishments.....

It's nothing more than lip service and headlines. Every year it is announced that something is going to be done., but nothing changes. Promises made by the police and the Mayor last until the reporters walk out of the room. Then it's business as usual.

I read somewhere recently that the government, responding to a glut of complaints from foreign diplomats, demanded that the problem be sorted and that this meeting is designed to straighten things out. Bangkok bigwigs are telling Pattaya what must be done.

Bizarre that the scammers are on the committee too.....I can't imagine for example pickpocket gangs in London sitting round the table with police deciding what punishments should be agreed upon. And the sanctions for beating up customers and extorting money don't mention jail time, just confiscation of the ski (which then would probably pass to a relative,so no harm done!).

A step in the right direction though?

Also on the committee are what is described as "several private organizations" without going into any details of who they might be.

Weird.

Business (politics) as usual. Foreign diplomats cleaning out their inboxes; Pattaya officials cleaning out theirs. Case closed.
