How busy is the week PRIOR to Christmas?

Recommended Posts

I have never visited around the Christmas holiday but I assume it's busy.I am considering a week stay around Dec 15-22 or so.Definately back home NLT Dec 23.

It's funny because I lived there for 15 months and I guess I didn't pay attention since I wasn't mongering.

The last time I was there for the holidays (a few years ago) - the biggest issue was lodging. Not really an "issue" - just marginally harder to get a hotel room in the moderate price range. Showing up at your favorite hotel without a reservation seems more likely to result in either not being able to keep a room for your entire length of stay, maybe having to move mid-visit, or there not being anything available there at all. But I say "not a big issue", because there's ALWAYS stuff available somewhere although you may have to pay a little more than you wanted. As far as the bars, etc. are concerned - everything was jumping!

I agree with Tomcat76. Make sure you have a confirmed room reservation in hand before you arrive.

I have noticed that the period from Dec 1 to Dec 15 is extremely quiet. You can probably get a room anywhere...it's the pause before the storm which starts building up to a crescendo a little over two weeks later with New Year's Eve.

Get in early, get your room settled, and watch the build up.

That's because the two week vacationers are trying to work in new years also.
