Getting my 700 baht back

Recommended Posts

Just wondering about the following. I have pre paid an international fare ex Bangkok which of course includes the 700 baht airport tax. If I cancel this flight for whatever reason will I have to try getting a refund from the carrier (very little hope) or will the 700 baht have been paid to the airport authority on booking and therefore they will/might refund?

The airport departure tax is included in your ticket price. If you cancel your flight and get a full refund then you get the money this back. I imagine tho that if you have some type of promo fare then your wont get 100% of your ticket price back. Whether the amount you do receive includes the airport tax or not I have no idea.

I have previously been unable to fly on a paid Air Asia ticket. On their website there is a facility to reclaim the airport taxes and this I have done on a couple of occasions. You should be able to do the same with your airline but the mechanics of how you achieve the refund will depend on the individual airline. I believe the airline is duty bound to refund the airport tax which they will not have paid already. Good luck.

Their T&Cs are quite clear. You can claim the tax back, but there is an admin fee applied to discourage you from doing so.

Thanks Tom. I didnt read this and appreciate your bringing it up.

That's a cracker Tom ! :llaugh Even puts Ryan Air's antics to shame ! ^_^

That's pretty funny. To get your 700 THB refunded, you have to give them approx 1200 THB in administrative fees (using SGD exchange rate today).
