Looking for good Hospital for Treating a Brain Tumar,I have found 2

Recommended Posts

I have just be told a friend I know here in Khon Kaen may have a brain tumar

I know the hospital he is in here in khon kaen ,I would never use this hospital for any treatment

as i have read bad reports.

I am going to see my friend tomorrow ,hope he remembers me as i have been told he has now

lost his memory due to the tumar.

I do know he has no tai lady to look after him as his x wife live in Germany ,he may have a german friend looking after him ,but unsure.

I am hoping he has good insurance ,if he has i would like to see him transfered to a better hospital

I am thinking of the Bangkok hospital ,either in BBK or Pattaya

But have read this is also a great hospital in BBK Bumrungrad

http://en.wikipedia....tional_Hospital

In what I know and read I would have no problem trusting the service and doctors of these hospital

If I was serious ill i would use one of them ,but good insurance is needed for sure as can be 8000 bhts night just for a single room.

Do any body know or have experiance of these and which would you think is the best ,money may not be a issue ,so looking at quality of care rather than costs.

Thanks for any help and hope I can also help my friend out if he needs it

Mick, sorry to hear about your friend.

I recently had to come back to Thailand for urgent treatment and went to the BKK Hospital pattaya. I was really dissappointed at their service and attitude. When i first went in, i was quoted 30k a night for th room and they sent several doctors to see me who had no clue what they were doing. I complained to Iam Corness the farang representative who managed to sort things out for me and got my room rate adjusted to 7k a night. He also got the right doctor to come to see me who diagnosed my problem quickly and got me straight - this was after 4 days of nonsense. And when it came to leaving, i rang my insurance company infront of the nurse and she heard them say "no problem, we will cover all the costs 100%" the hospital then said i could not leave as they use a 3rd party negotiator in Malaysia to finalise the costs WTF. So i told him were to go and just left after signing the papaers at the cashiers desk 1 minute later.

I have a couple of friends who went to Bumrungrad and they cant say enough about the place. I am going there again in a few weeks for a ventral hernia op and i have been reading up on this hospital, it has some of the best doctors in thailand and they seem to be on the top when it comes to service also. Have been quoted 8k a night from the onset, so its about right and im happy with them so far.

hope it works out for your friend. Good luck

Bumrungrad think this is the place i would use if I am serios ill or need operation in future.I will see if my friend insurance is ok for this hospital

Last week i was in BKK Pattaya Hospital ,was was impressed with them ,seemed to find what virus i had very quick ,good quick treatment to bring my temp down.

I must addmit did not see much of the DRs but the nursing staff was great ,also my insurance was sorted out all for me .

The total cost was 30000 bhts ,30 hours in hospital ,.

I think the boys in the labs do a very good job checking on blood ,ect, ect ,very quick results ,sure would have had to waite lot longer in the uk

Mick,

Whatever happens, you'll need to check the small print in his insurance schedule - not all will cover you in the Bangkok Group, let alone Bumrungrad. Lots of Thais opt for Vejthani or Samitvej in Bangkok and they both have good reputations.

Earlier this year I had a excellent experience at BKK-Pattaya. I was very happy with the service received.

I would try Ramathibodi... Its a university hospital so "interesting" cases are welcome there and they have a good neurosurgical unit. My girlfriend works there as a nurse and she also went there for treatment of a clot in her retinal artery and wouldnt go anywhere else. Very good imaging devices, cyberknive apparantly available and definatly cheaper then Bumrungrad.

Many uninsured Cambodians and Burmese get treated there as well, you wont get a premium treatment for free but they are not assholes like in the private hospitals

If you are in Pattaya, you are probably going to go to a Pattaya hospital if it is something not too serious or which is urgently serious (think MM's recent sojourn). If I was going to have to travel or could travel, I think I would be headed to Bangkok. My flavor of Blue Cross insurance will accept direct billing from Bumrungrad and, for that matter, Bangkok-Pattaya so it can happen.

Yes I agree what you say ,like mine is covered for all hospitals in Thailand as I bought mine in Thailand.

Talked to my friend last night ,he is not well at all ,his German mate is trying to help him ,but his insurance is bought in Germany and finding it hard to sort out how much he is insured for ,so at moment just waiting in a hospital bed whilst this is sorted ,a terrible situation as I think he needs operation as soon as possible, what making it worst is his thai wife who finished with him a few months ago have come from Germany to see him now he is ill.It looks like to me that she not want him to have operation and there just to take care of his credit cards ,I may be wrong ,lets hope so.

But I have been told because they are still married ,my friend mind seems so confussed, now the wife is the only person who can sign for operation for him ,if thats the case I feel so sorry for him as I think she will not sign.

Maybe better to take a step back and pass it on to the German Embassy to sort out. They appear to be a bit more sympathetic than the UK Embassy - we had a German guy who was in the local hospital for months (basically for free) and the Embassy was (eventually) helpful in sorting everything out.

I have had to spend some time at Bumrungrad Hospital in BKK. This is a top notch hospital. I would not go to any other hospital. Try it first before you go somewhere else.

I live in Loei province. Our village had a young guy who was going blind. The Loei government hospital diagnosed him as having a brain tumor. They sent him to Khon Kaen for treatment. I don't know which hospital but I think it was the university hospital. They mentioned it was a teaching hospital. The tumor wasn't malignant and he healed up just fine after surgery.

This would be Srinagarind Hospital a teaching hospital ,I am sure the DR are very good as many are also working odd days as consultants at the Khon Kaen Ram Private hospital.

At the moment he is in Khon Kaen Ratchaphruek Hospital ,which has a bad name here ,I have been told if wife agrees will move to Srinagarind for operation and after few days move back to Ratchaphruek ,this is all due to issue with his insurance and other hospitals do not accept his insurance as being good enough .So moving him to BKK is out for sure.

I have talk to may x pats who do not have medical insurance after all the issues what has happen to me and seen happening to my friend ,it is a must a good medical insurance if you in LOS.

I was talking to a french man yesterday who says he is ok as he has insurance in France and would go home if serious ill ,then I point out to him if he was serious il he may be admitted to hospital in Thailand and then could not fly home and find out then he has trouble with having his insurance in France.

I am finding lots of xpats take a big gamble hoping not to get ill ,then when they are 60 year old good insurance companies will not insure them

That's true, Mick. On the flip side of the coin, if you have been insured for several years, the insurance company will probably have built up a fairly good list of pre-existing conditions to pretty much limit your coverage in the future.

I cancelled my Thai LMG health insurance several years ago. My policy said that they would never cancel me because of age but they said nothing about pricing me out. I had one claim all the years I had the policy and that was for appendicitis. I'm taking my chances with government hospitals. If it happens to be a long term illness such as the big C, I'll go back to the US and use my medicare. For a couple hundred thousand baht you can get a lot of decent care at the government hospitals. A private very nice room is 1,600 baht per day at the new government hospital.
