Ordering from the Thai Apple Online Store !

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am looking at getting a new I-mac desktop, probably around the beginning of February time. I would prefer to use the Thai online store, so I can configure the machine exactly as I want from the start.

Has anybody used the Apple Online Store to order anything Apple. If so, did they (Apple), use DHL for delivery and did they deliver direct to your house ?? I know that all their orders ship from Apple in Singapore.

The reason I ask, is that I read a thread on Thai Visa saying that they use DHL and that DHL only deliver to their nearest depot, then phone you up requesting an extra payment to deliver to your house. Not a big problem normally, but the nearest DHL depot from Nakhon Phanom is in Korat, five and a half to a six hour drive away from me.

If that is the case, then I will buy an off the self I-Mac from some of the I-Beats stores close by.

Regards

Can't you just send them an email and ask them? Or call?

Would do, but pretty sure they will give me same information as their website i.e 'it will be delivered to your house'. Just wondered if anybody had any actual experience with their delivery service and the use of DHL.

Here in the USA ,everything I've ever ordered from the Apple store has been delivered via FedEx. I can track the stuff all the way from China to my front door. Of course, maybe they use DHL for Thailand deliveries.

Well I can confirm that DHL actually deliver right to your door even in the far North east corner of Isaan, Nakhon Phanom to be precise. I was out when they arrived with the new computer, but the daughter said they had come from Udon Thani, so maybe DHL have a depot there as well ? They never even phoned or text for directions to the house, so well impressed.

Computer was actually 6 days ahead of the earliest delivery dates supplied by Apple. Would definitely use the online store again, very efficient.

Not sure, it's not something that I have looked for on their site, check it out at http://store.apple.com/th , only thing if buying from there and then intend taking your purchase out of Thailand, I'm pretty sure you don't qualify for the VAT tourist refund when departing Thailand. So don't factor that into your price structure.

Don't forget to check out the student discounts or the military/federal employee discounts if those might be applicable to you. At least in the US, you can save a little bit by buying that way from the Apple online store.

Certain stores are designated "Education Providers" in Thailand where you can buy direct without paying VAT. Saves around 3k on a 27" iMac. (at least it would if they had any in stock)

Maybe some light at the end of the tunnel regarding availability of the 27' model Tom, or have you managed to get one yet ?

Thanks for that, but not a sniff locally - it isn't a big deal to me for the time being, but I hope my local u-store will have them before the end of April. I'm happy with the off-the-shelf configuration as I can chuck in the extra RAM that I'd like without too much hassle.
