Qatar - QMiles BKK-HAN in May

Recommended Posts

You have to sign into your QMiles account and register 24 hours in advance of booking but 8k QMiles plus around 3k Bat in taxes for a Biz Class return is a good deal IMO (assuming the 4k is doubled for a return) (if not, 11.5k QMiles for a return is still a good deal)... book on their website. There appears to be lots of availability.

What are QMiles?

Whatever they are I have 109.000 of them.

These FF miles are near useless, I have had little success availing them and always pursue carriers based mostly on price anyhow.

You don't redeem QPoints - they only determine your membership tier.

Well i am using my Q Miles for my next Flight (May/June) Manchester to BKK return 70K Qmiles but have to pay just over £200 in air taxes etc, still better than a kick in the bollocks imo,if you know how to work them and book rewards flights well in advance then for nothing they're well worth accumulating. It's my 2nd 'Rewards' flight with Qatar i have also had 3 rewards flights with Emirates in the past 10 years or so.Emirates air taxes are cheaper usually around £100 so as i mentioned collecting/joining frequent flyer programmes is well worth it even if you don't use the miles it doesn't cost you anything.A few other benefits are airport lounge access when you reach silver status and complimentary upgrades to Biz class has happened quite regularly for me (usually on the Dubai/Doha to BKK leg of the flight).

How many flights per annum are you taking? I usually only do 2 but in Biz Class. I can't seem to remain even in Silver level and miles expire before I can use them. perhaps mileage flights are easier ex-UK? I lean towards Etihad because of the limo. Which of the rewards programs would you think is the better?

The miles are valid for 5 years - you're being careless if you let them expire when you can use them to buy stuff in Doha Duty Free. I've had no problems using QMiles for flights originating in UK, Doha and Bangkok - just book far enough ahead and avoid blackout (holiday) periods.

Tom is right - I am not really a frequent flier but last year I had a nice bottle of "Black Bush" for Qmiles expiring later in the year. Not a lot but still better than nothing :-)

And just why do you think QA is shit - I think the planes, seats and service are better than most airlines I have flown with ? (but as said I am not really a frequent flier),

So to utilize the miles for 'purchases' I have to fly with Qatar, ie be in the duty free shop in Doha airport?

I never tried to buy anything with them....the shop in the Qatar Premium Transit Lounge didn't have much selection, and at that time I wasn't aware I could use them. As said, Etihad offer me a limo, and I don't like the Doha bus system to transfer passengers. I have my fill of sitting motionless on Beach rd baht buses. :D

Etihad keep suggesting I use their 'miles' to enter raffle draws.

Already booked an Etihad ticket fot this summer and am considering the Emirates A380 for my other trip.

Well - I don't know if you can buy stuff online also with the miles.

They are building a new and much bigger airport in Doha so the busses will hopefully disappear soon. Even though I think (especially for businessclass) the busses are quite different from a bahtbus. But the good bit is that we can all pick what we prefer.

For me I fly Thailand to USA every 5 weeks, Company has been buying tickets on Qatar air mostly this past year (2012) so my mileage has built up quick and the Qpoint got me gold status already.....

Gold status means nothing to me as I already had lounge access with Silver and use of OXY lounge in DOHA with my Priority pass card . The Silver lounge in DOHA is awful with no booze and dirty bathrooms, the OXY lounge is better but you need gold status to get in there....Its got booze (have to ask attendent to get for you) and computers to use but other than that the food sucks and the batrooms/showers are crap. The seating in the lounge very un comfy unless you can score a sleeperlounge that mostly taken over by Irianien woman so feck that shit...I will say the Qatar lounge in Houston is very good with loads of oil field trash workers getting drunk with double jacks before there flight very nice comfy lounge as well.

As for Qatar airlines itself the check in process is good as i can use the buissness class asile in most airports exept DOHA as there we all que in one line, The planes nothing special econamy tight drab seats with average entertainment systems i did notice on newer planes there is a usb port to charge your stuff which is nice to have on a 17.5 hour flight from DOHA to Houston. Food I can not comment as I don't eat since currey chicken sucks and thats all they serve is Arab type crap spewuuuu. The stewerdesses?? yes most very lovely and some 1/2 asian looking ones really nice eye candy BUT they all got that fake smile painted on there face most of the time and wear them stupid little hats.....UGLY

WORST thing about Qatar for me (and its not the airlines fault) is it caters it seems mostly to big fat old INDIAN WOMEN they hog the batrooms and slow down the whole traveling process most can not even find there seat.

I still have not gotten confirmation of my upgrade for my upcomming flight but the Qmiles have been deducted already??

Do they sent me a confirmation email or what??

Email sent to airline with no reply(now that really pisses me off) if no reply I will use Emeriates next time Feck qatar airlines.

If you thought that Qatar was tight with its 9 across seating on its 777s, you're going to love Emirates. :thumbup
