Stable Lodge on Soi 8/Sukumvit

Recommended Posts

Avoid this place at all costs!  The room was 1250/night, and had cockroaches and was generally dirty.  The staff was indifferent and the place looks generally run down.  I stayed one night, and then moved across the soi to the Promanade Hotel, which was clean, professionally run, and was only 1000 per night.  Jimmybb

Jimmmy, sounds like the place hasn't changed much since I stayed there almost 10 years ago.  Like you, I didn't go back.  However, the restaurant was quite good bact then.    Roy

Hi Jimmy

I agree with you 100 %. Stayed there last year and did the same as you did. Moved to the promenade. I dont't know what annoyed me most. The indifference from the staff or that they add 8-9 % to your bill on everything you buy (food, room, beer...) or the view from my room

(2,5 meters to the backside of the neighbour building).

But now we are talking about it. I found the beer garden restaurant just across the street very good. Both thai and farang food and the staff was very friendly. I would be happy if you write at a review in the hotel section, because currently there is only one, which favours this hotel. I have to admit that the hotel is Danish managed/owned and normaly my fellow countrymen do a good job, but this one stinks.

Best wishes and thanks for your wiew.

The Soi 8 Beer Garden you mentioned is a nice quiet place in the morning.  I stop by for breakfast and read the paper. I also frequented the nearby Smile Internet. Smile rates are good and they have washer/dryers. They do laundry for you - have it dry and read for pickup in about 3 hours.  :)

Hi all,

Stayed at Promenade last June (see my review in the hotel section on this website). Sorry, but I didn't like the Promenade; rundown, staff didn't care much about their guest etc. Stable Lodge looked better on the outside, but I only ate there once. I agree the beergarden on Soi 8 is very good and reasonably prices.

Maybe the Promenade has undergone an upgrade? Can anyone give me un update on the rooms? Is everything working, are the sheets clean etc.

One good thing about Promenade: Cleaning staff was nice and good.

Dennis, I found the Promanade to be allright.  The sheets were indeed clean(although when the Hoover got done extracting my DNA they were a bit soiled) and the staff were, if not extraordinarily outgoing, certainly turned a blind eye to me taking two tilacs up to my room on two occasions, and that was all that I needed from them.  I never had anything to eat there(save for the girls I brought in myself) so I cannot vouch for the restaurant.  Regards, Jimmy

Oh man, I wish I'd gotten this info this past January when I had the MISfortune of staying here.

The Stable lodge is a total and complete DIVE.

Jimmybb,

Thanks for this update!

Last June when I was staying there, there weren't much guests staying at the Promenade Hotel. Still the lady from reception couldn't remember me and the room I was staying in (maybe all Farang look the same to her). I was with the same TG all the time. I stayed there 5 nights.

It was obvious that once the Promenade must have been a decent place to stay. Maybe even 4-star hotel. Think it was part of Best Western. My opinion is that the rooms need some new carpets, new bathroom, new TV, new beds. Well, just about everything. Stayed in Pattaya Apex after that and was much more happier with the Apex.

I like the Promenade's location; just off Sukhumvit in quiet soi, beergarden nearby and a short pleasant walk to BTS and NEP

I've stayed at the Stable Lodge a couple of times.  The last 2 times were a bit of a turnoff though so I doubt I will be back.

It's a good location but it is a bit on the pricey side and the rooms are getting a bit old.  Forget it if you want to shower with more than lukewarm water.   Last trip, they had to move me twice before I was even reasonably satisfied and then they overcharged me from what I was quoted on the internet when I reserved a room.

The first room absolutely stunk of tobacco smoke and the second, had NO hot or even warm water.

  • 5 months later...

I used to like this hotel but stayed there last year and the quality has really gone down. The owners wife who is Thai but has a Danish accent is very snobbish and if there is a problem with your room they won't do anything about it. The last time I was there I checked out after I complained about the airconditioner being too loud and that the tv only had 2 channels they could care less. They didnt even have CNN. Also the beds are very noisy when you are partaking in some extracurricular activity. There was also a roach in the bathroom.  I moved down to the royal asia lodge which was ok except the manager kept on bugging me to buy a suit there.

Thanks for your opinion. I hope it was the owners wife's snobbishness and not her danish accent that pissed you

off.   :)

But anyway soi 8 is a nice little street to stay in with a very good location. For another reason to stay in soi 8 you can read Klosters report 'best XXXX bar report' in the trip reports section.

Best wishes
