The Olympic Park, Munich.

Recommended Posts

The stadium, as well as the park itself, has to be one of the most iconic landmarks in the world. Built for the 1972 Olympic games,(and will forever more be remembered for something completely different), it was considered space age and ahead of its time.

Interesting fact, the hilly nature of this park is due to the fact that it has been built on all the old ruins and rubble of destroyed buildings from WW2.

As the day I visited here (3rd August) was my birthday, it was expected of me to stop off for a beer or 2..................

Nice set of photos as usual from yourself, oh, and happy birthday since we share the same birthday.

Regards

Cheers Sam, and happy birthday yourself, even though you have a few more years on you than I do.

As a matter of intrest, was the site of the attrocities still there, and preserved, or were the blocks pulled down?

It appears to be a fully functioning village (dorf) these days.

I remember my first visit to the stadium to watch Bayern play Liverpool in 1981. Graeme Souness gave a footballing masterclass against Paul Breitner to ensure The Reds qualified for the final in Paris. What I found incredible, apart from the stadium itself, was that trams ran all the way from the city centre into the complex. We didn't do sensible things like that in the UK.
