Where's the girl?

You hooked me on your restaurant reviews from that Vietnamese one in Central a while back......... and the girl with the big charlies.

Ah well, the food looks good.

The food looks very good, i will call in next week and try for myself. I used to go very often to the Pig and Whistle, but sadly since the owner passed it has gone down hill quickly and the food is shite. This place looks like a good alternative

She's back in the village for a few weeks.

And it's right next door to the Pig and Whistle.

It's been in operation since 1997 and that's longer than most restaurants last. From the conversations I heard in Olala, most of the guests were Scandinavian or Russian. It's been about half-full each time I've gone there, which is pretty good for low season.

Interesting that they keep the mushroom sauce on the side. Normally jaegerschnitzl comes with mushroom sauce already on top. From the picture I thought you got wienerschnitzl.

I'll be back again. The food I've had so far has been well prepared from quality ingredients and that's more than can be said for a lot of the restaurants in central Pattaya.

What do they say about great minds? :D

I've been going there for the smoked salmon since 2009 but a bit weary about European food in Thailand. I don't like white toast and was only able to convince her twice to bring me German rye bread(or was it maybe Norwegian as she claimed but I seriously doubt it) and I'm missing the capers and some balsamic vinegar but we can't have it all (I wouldn't even mention fresh dill for she would write me off as a total weirdo).

Other than the smoked salmon, all their Thai dishes are great (the only funny thing is the Craft cheese on the pineapple rice). I love to eat there and watch the street go by...

Isn't Rosie O'Gradys between them?

I pass this place often and they always seem to have a fair few customers. I have only been put off by the fact all the seating is 'outside' and I prefer to get away from the dust/exhaust and cigarette smoke. (Not to mention heat).

Sitting outside is the main attraction for me - other than the food itself, of course. I can't recall ever being so hot that the place would become unpleasant to sit, each table is nicely ventillated by a fan from the top. Since there is hardly any vehicle traffic on soi 7, exhaust is not an issue either.

Some more pics:

An open-faced prawn sandwich. About as simple as it gets, but good!

And a bowl of Thai soup, really good. Clear broth, minced pork and vegetables. The cook who made that one really knew what he or she was doing.

If you approach Olala from Soi 8 on the subsoi that connects Sois 8 and 7, then the P & W is next door. But on Soi 7 itself, Rosie's is between Olala and P & W.

The streetside tables are usually occupied, so I sit "inside" most of the time and the wall-mounted fans keep things reasonably cool. I haven't noticed a problem with dust, exhaust or cigarette smoke.

And for the chea-, I mean conscious consumers, on the board, the World Wide Beer Bar diagonally across the street from Olala has New Plaza prices (Leo, Chang, Singha and Tiger at 40 baht a bottle).

I walk down soi 7 at least once a week and have never yet made it down there without having to step in the gutter umpteen times. Fortunately the Olala tables are set well back. I feel the heat, particularly when I eat, so prefer to get indoors and in AC, outside is great over the sea, elsewhere, it is for the smokers. And that is likely my contention, if one person lights up nearby as I eat, the meal is ruined.

I have always wondered how people enjoy eating at the seafood place on soi 15, with tarts, drunks and boisterous crowds bustling past.

When I eat near the house with the TGF it is mostly al fresco, although we find a few places which are quite open and breezy, I still take a small towel with me!
