Motorcyle & Bicycle rental recommendation.

Recommended Posts

I will be arriving Pattaya in a couple of days. Staying for a month Does anyone have recommends for:

1) bicycle rentals: prefer a hybrid or good quality mountain bike, i.e. Trek etc.

2) motorcycle rental (automatic)

Also would appreciate advice on how much to pay.

Thanks

Rental rates for small bikes short term run around 150 a day. If you go longer term, (2 weeks), I have gotten them around 120 a day and even 100 as a repeat customer low season. Bike places are all over and I doubt you would get ripped off at most of them. I stay at the residence garden so use the shop across the street. He has bikes out front and also has a small restaurant. I have also used the shop on second road at soi Pattayaland 1. There is 7/11 there and next to RC clinic. Place is called Lynda..but run by her daughter.

Make sure you have a helmet that fits you, even though the helmet will not help much in an accident, the police run traffic stops all the time (especially beach road just before walking street and areas around there) and the fine is 400 if I recall correctly. BOTH driver and passenger require them.

Also, they may ask for a drivers license so I always carry an international one, but have only been asked for it about 1/3 of the time.

I disagree a good Snell approved helmet can be a lifesaver. Yes, it's expensive but your brain is worth it. Traffic is CRAZY in Pattaya.

Whose brain is worth it?

Are you suggesting packing a helmet in his suitcase, or searching for a Pattaya rental company that offers these Snell approved helmets?

I see part of the Snell testing (I had to look it up, never heard of it before), is 'Flame Resistant Test', that would be for you! :D

Thanks for the suggestions/recommendations. I am arriving today from Bangkok. So about $2000/small motorbike and $5000 for a large?

I actually am bringing my bicycle helmet. I wonder if it is legal to use it with a motorcycle? Much lighter weight and better breathability.

You can rent a motor bike from a guy on this forum called "Pool hustler" he advertises a delivery and collection service any where in Pattaya and has had good reviews. You can use your own helmet, no one really cares about what type of helmet you use. I have seen many using construction hard hats and bicycle helmets on motor bikes. Be sure to carry your license with you always. That said, it don't matter if the police stop you, they will tell you your license is not valid, but do not worry, they just want a few hundred baht tea money.

Disagree with what??? I was pointing out that helmets are required or 400 baht fine. The ones that come with the bikes are chaep plastic and are usially way too small, at least for me. I have NEVER been offered a Snell approved helmet in Pattaya. Please enlighten us...where do you rent from to get the Snell approved helmet?

Amazon has a Bell Snell helmet for $70.USD. Well worth the small cost assuming your brain is worth it.

Do you wear a helmet while you are riding your scooter thingy?

Yes and it's Snell approved.
