The deal is pukka.  My mother and my cousin are both over in May.  They have paid £40 per night for double rooms for 4 nights with another 4 nights free and a complimentary upgrade thrown in.  Booked through Premier Travel Asia together with our stay in Bangkok at the Landmark (£44 per night with complimentary upgrades to suites).

Might have to look into that for my late april trip.

From the reviews I understand that sometimes there is a joinerfee, and other times not. So I guess if I don't bring the really skanky ones from the beach I should be ok ??? Or I could just remind them that I have in fact booked a double? Oh.. Pamper me ;D

I'm staying at the Dusit for a few weeks this year for £22 per night as they don't charge a single supplement from April to October if you book with the right companies. Needless to say, you can't combine this with the free nights offer. I've stayed there before and would certainly recommend it to anyone.

 

Now the bad news. They do charge a joiner fee of 1000 baht per girl, so anyone who didn't pay probably just got lucky. They do seem to be polite with the girls though.

 

Whaler, I don't think the "I've booked a double" ploy works in any hotels I know of. Unless the room is booked in the names of two people, they'll still hit you with the joiner fee (and what if you want to take more than one girl back?)

My experience with the major hotels that I've booked through a third party is:

 

If you book a single room a joiner fee is always applied.

 

If you book a double (e.g. Mr & Mrs Cheshire) you are allowed one registered guest i.e. the first girl that you bring to the hotel.  Any others result in a joiner fee.

 

Whilst this is a general rule I find it is as much the hotel's attitude to my guest(s) as the fee itself that pisses me off.  I remember one particular front-desk night supervisor giving my wife and I a particularly hard time in Bangkok and treating her as some second rate citizen.  His world collapsed when he found out that prior to coming to UK she was, in fact, a manager within the same hotel group and a particular favourite of the owners.  Never seen him again after that!

 

Notable exceptions to the above rule in BKK are The Landmark and the JW Marriott who appear to be extremely guest friendly (I believe the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is similar although I have never tested it).  Not surprising given their locations.

What you say about the single room/joiner fee thing makes perfect sense, and is why I have no gripes about paying the joiner fee at the Dusit, as it still costs me less than booking a double.

 

I don't know what they do at the Dusit if you do book a double, but I know from experience that some of the higher end hotels such as the Montien will still charge the joiner fee, which I think is taking the piss. Even more so their hotel in Bangkok, which is just over the road from Patpong!

 

I've asked some of the girls who I've taken back to the Dusit how they were treated by the front desk staff, and they didn't seem to have any problem. But then perhaps this is to be expected as the place used to be guest friendly until recent times anyway.

Oh well. Joiner fee it is then. I guess I will try Dusit some other time. I would have had to pay the fee every night for at least one girl. I have a 2 nights booked already at RG, so I will have a base at least for the first days. No problem to find rooms in late april.

Stayed at the Dusit in October and they were actively chasing people for the joiner fee......no matter what standard the girl may be. If you have booked with a package you will be chased for the fee. Personally I think 1000 baht is too much. Its cheaper to find a second room at a budget hotel for sanuk purposes, but each to their own on this, if you think its worth it then pay. The hotel is a great hotel but It does bug me that they changed their guest policy. This was my favourite hotel, and I changed from using the Royal Garden/Marriot because they were chasing people for the joiner fee.

I had a long argument with the night manager on this, he eventually let me take the girl into the hotel with no joiner fee but said any new girls I would have to pay.  The following night I came home with another girl and briskly walked past with a wave, either they didn't notice or couldn't be bothered, after that I kept the same girl.

 

I have stayed at Dusit, Marriott, Montiem, Flipper House and Eastiny Inn (or place can't recall) but Eastiny and Flipper are much better value for money, but are 3 star.  I spend a lot of time in 5 star places and the Dusit anit one, it's a bit overpriced, 20 pounds not too bad thou.  Cheers

20 pounds is bloody great. Put it this way, before my next trip to PTY I'm staying in Wales for a week and that's gonna cost me 110 pounds per night. Still, I'll be in my second favourite place in the world.

 

I won't say exactly where it is, but there's a clue in this post (and most of my others come to that.)
