Onboard Internet- Fantastic!

Recommended Posts

Well the difference might be getting my laptop out and figuring out how to power that as well.... I normally put the power chords into my checked-in baggage.

Seems a little expensive, more than a soft-core in a hotel room!

I can see it being of use trans-USA but I normally do intercontinental overnight so watching a film and then trying to sleep is a priority.

I just dread when they will be using their phones and yapping nearby, the introduction of this concerns me if people will be skyping all night. You will have the lovesick and impatient simpering 'be there soon honey' and could make for a few messy blankets.

Thanks for that Jaco, interesting article.

Regarding the power issue for laptops, tablets etc. I just bought a 15,000'amp hour Power Bank for $50. It is really great and lets me recharge my Ipad when the battery runs out on long overseas flights. The GF has a copy tablet and the battery only lasts about an hour and a half so she loves it as well.

All Cathay Pacific 777's have plugs under the seats in all classes for power. They are a 3 pin type with the facility for US / Asia / European plugs.

Also, they have a USB slot in the IFE screen so you can plug your phone into it and watch any movies you might have on the SD card on the screen. I think Malaysia have the same as well (or at least their A380 airbus does).

Delta has the same set-up regarding electric power/USB port. A number of airlines have for quite a few years had power outlets so you use/re-charge your laptop, but not always in the Economy cabin.

I travel on cheap airlines, mostly around SE Asia, so no power provided, that is why I bought the power bank
