Has anyone stayed at  the ambassador hotel on sumkumvit road?  I usually stay at the Nana hotel and my friends this trip want to stay at the ambassador hotel.  Any information would be of great help.

Thanks

I am under the impression that a lot of Asian tours stay there. walking by the hotel on previous trips, I have seen lots of asians. Nothing wrong with this, but I prefer to stay elsewhere. The restaurant at the Ambassador is decent however.

The hotel may okay, but as a general rule I prefer hotels that don't have tour groups staying there, particularly asian tour groups.

The hotel is conveniently close to one of my favourite places, the Thermae coffeshop[.

When I first came to Bkk 9 years ago, I made a habit of staying at the Ambassador.  However, as time passed, the place became a bit run down.  The restaurants were hurting for business so they went down also.  Yes tour buses are the thing there now.  I quit staying there about 5 years ago as the rooms were very worn, and the plumbing was terrible.  It is as if they don't fix anything.  If there has been any up-grading, I am not aware of it.  If I am alone in BKK (a temporary condition that is solved on a daily basis) I stay at the Nana.  When I have a tirac in tow I stay at the Swiss Park Hote, which is next ddor to the Ambassador on a little side street. Small and friendly, but has the same good location.     Roy

After looking at the previous posts and reviews, maybe I can add a few positives. I stayed at the Ambassador a half dozen times between 95 and 99.  My rooms did not have any problems but I could tell that management was not refurbishing wear and tear. Its a big hotel and if you have a serious problem they should be able to move you to another room.   The room size of average. if you need USA electrity, 120 vs 220, there is a 120 outlet in the bathroom.  The tower rooms are newer and should still be in good shape.  But you will pay maybe another 500B for these. They run a bus to their Jomtien Pattaya Ambassador Hotel for about 300 Baht. I would take this bus to Pattaya and then grab a taxi to take me to another hotel within Pattaya. There are lots of shops and eateries in the hotel. I found the barber shop convienient. They have turned a parking area into a beer garden with live bands and food and drink booths. And yes the location is great - between NEP and Soi Cowboy.  Maybe a good plan is to try the Ambassador and look around to see if you want to  move elsewhere.

Have never stayed at Dynasty in BKK but the one in Pattaya was excellent. Quiet location, no guest fee, good pool & rooms, friendly staff. Breakfasts are crap so specify no breakfast and room rate falls from 990 to 900 Bt/night (Feb 2002) use the saving to buy your breakfast at Yorkies.

Use the nearby staff entrance to the Royal Cliff where there is an excellent bakery for a dinner time snack and the sports club has a book exchange, read the newspapers in their business centre and post your letters there, I've never had one go missing yet. Check out the special offers, they occasionally have banquet meals in their Chinese restaurant at good prices but DO NOT DRINK with the meal, a glass of wine and a beer will cost more than the whole meal, besides you get unlimited chinese tea.

The Dynasty in Bangkok is actually three (soon to be four) different buildings.  The only one not to stay in is the original, where reception is, as the rooms are getting a little worn.  If you specify the "new section" the rooms are fine.  It's directly across the little soi which runs down from Soi 4, so if you're taking "company" back, you don't have to do the long walk through the coffee shop - not that anyone there cares, but you might be the easily embarassed type !

Staff are great, teak-panelled rooms are clean, and maids now operate 24 hours/day, so you can get your room cleaned anytime.  Food is OK, with falang-spicy Thai, and sort of American dishes (what the hell IS creamed beef, or SOS ?).  Travel agency on the premises, also god shop if you're feeling REALLY generous.  Safety boxes at reception, available 24 hours a day.  Laundry service daily.  Direct dial phones, good sized firm beds, large fridge with free drinking water, basic soft drinks and beer supplies, and plenty of room to add your own, TV and boom box.

Can't think of anything else - oh, the place doesn't have a pool, although one is rumoured to be under construction at the end of the soi.  Ask if you have any specific questions.
