Jesus I was flying into Seeb back in the mid 70's on Gulf air VC-10's. Oman air was known as Oman Aviation back then and had about 3 planes, all held together with duct tape and prayers.

By all accounts they've come a long way, and Oman is a fabulous place to visit (like Dubai but with much more class and less ostentatious examples of wealth) and offers a unique chance to see an example of unspoilt Arabia in some areas.

Ive "thought" about using Oman Air before (but from Heathrow).

The only thing that put me off, was there was a long layover (I cant remember on which leg though).

I looked at online reviews and they seemed pretty good. The A380 is a great plane to fly in too.

May well use them sometime in the future though.

Oman Air don't have any A380s.

I took a look at LHR-BKK and there certainly are good connections available with total trip times under 17hrs both ways, like any carrier you have to look at this carefully at the time of booking.. those get full quicker and the cheaper flights may well give you the longer layover times. The early AM departure from BKK may not suit everyone if you are trying to get there from Pattaya. My pal went on the last Bell Bus and hung around the airport all night to save a bit of money. He said flight and service all okay.

They do seem to be competitive on prices.

A330 MAN - MCT and then 787 Nightmareliner MCT-BKK.

Just found this review on SeatGuru about the Nightmareliner...

MCT-BKK and return in April If you're used to Oman Air's A330s and their spacious seating, be prepared for a shock. This is a battery hen experience. Officially 3 inches less leg room made even worse by a couple of inches of magazines in each seat pocket. Good airline, horrible plane.

Have been checking the Oman Website, but MAN is not yet showing up yet.

The Seat Guru reports go 'out of the window' if you are lucky and get ex wet leased Kenya Airways B787-8s two of which are now operated by Oman Air.

Most third party TA's are now showing Oman flights and should also be showing on Oman website by the weekend.

Just checked for May and the dates when we should be going..... and the Oman Air price comes in at £659 on lastminute.com.... Emirates currently quoting £384...

I think they will need to cut the prices to compete..

Well the problem is that a lot of ailrines wont have sorted out their Allocations for May yet. so prices will go a long way up and down untill around February. Emirates will always post cheap prices as they have so many flights into and out of the UK whereas other airlines dont, so those airlines will be contractually obligated to hold the seat allocations.

Emirates do seem to differ in their pricing structure and ticket validity. I was looking for a return ticket in Biz class Bangkok ex Manchester, but wanted the return leg slightly over 6 months after the outward. That made the ticket very expensive with most carriers but didn't seem to with Emirates, and a Biz Saver class was available. Changes are expensive though at £300 !

Sorry!

I mean the A380 with Thai! .... I was writing , what made sense in my head!!....but obviously not on "paper"!!!

I will be retiring in a few years......so will probably go to Thailand 3 times a year....

Fare prices will be more closely looked at then! So could well be using airlines such as Oman in the future

Oman Air now have BKK ex Manchester at £350 return late August/Sept/Oct with short layovers in Muscat. See Kayak/Skyscanner

Just been checking for my dates in May it was coming in at £354... it's a pity the time of the flight from MAN is bad as I prefer morning departures...

Finally got round to booking and went with the Qatar option with a twist.... and the deal came in at £339.24 each...

And the twist? The route is MAN-DOH-BKK outward and the BKK-DOH-LHR-MAN on the return.... The good thing is we have the A380 DOH-BKK and DOH-LHR!!! The bad thing will be having to suffer the Nightmareliner MAN-DOH...

The timing of the Oman Air flight put us off...

Well, looks like my gamble of booking when I did paid off..... the price has already gone back up....

Also had a little bit of good news thanks to being signed up to myflightapp..... The BKK-DOH leg on the return has been swapped from a 777-300ER to an A380... So now I have 3 legs on the A380 and it will make the Nightmareliner leg easier to suffer...
