Bar Ownership

???Hi folks, this is my first post.

I have read all of the warnings against investing in a beer bar. The general opinion is that they don't make much money.

My needs are very modest. My question is: Do any of you own a beer bar or know someone who does? If so, what is a realistic estimate of net profit that can be made from a modest beer bar in south pattaya?

Also, any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated!

This thread is in the wrong forum...it might suit "General Pattaya Discussion" better.  

 

While Irishman poses a good question, there are some bars in Pattaya that make money for their owners, else they wouldn't stay in business for year after year.   My information is out-of-date, but as recently as 2001 you could get a small beerbar for about US$15k, and a small gogo for US$75k.   Of course, that's just the inital purchase price, you should figure on the same amount again for startup costs and a cash-flow cushion.    

 

Here are some additional questions to ask yourself before investing:

 

1) Have you ever owned and operated your own business?

 

2) Have you ever owned, operated/managed a bar  in your own country?

 

3) Are you married to a Thai national?

 

If the answer to any of the above is "no", then save yourself some aggravation.  By all means, reside in Pattaya (wish I could!) but find some other way of making a living.

Brit bought a beer bar on soi 7 for 5mill and sold for 3mill. Not bad for a short term "investment". If you look apon this as a "expensive hobby" where you get to fuck the staff and they in turn get to fuck you......   5 days until I'm reloaded into the Thai Matrix, Phuket vrsion

There is a board member , JohnUK , who bought a bar in the Soi 13 area recently . I think he is having problems already so I would suggest he would be able to advise you better than most .

Just walk down Soi Yodsak and look at all the empty buildings that were once Beer Bars.  September 11th didn't help either. good luck

If your talking about one of the small open air beer bars I don't think you need very much to start.  Most of them are leased by the month.  You would have to buy your stock, TV, sound system and be able to pay for your utilities and salaries and other misc.
