Hi folks, i originally put this post in the wrong catagory. (newby)

Despite all of the warnings against it, I am still interested in opening a small beer bar in pattaya. My needs and expectations are very modest.

Can such a business make an income in south pattaya? If so, how much?

Any bar owners or friends of such are asked to reply. Thanks for any information you can provide. Peace!

Operating any business profitably is difficult.  When you have 3,000 competitors in the same town it is well nigh impossible.

Throw in a completely different work ethic amongst your employees, a dodgy legal situation and third world economics and it’s getting very tricky.

However some beer bars are profitable.  It does not happen by accident or good luck but by smart business practices by the owner.

Most beer bars are charitable operations whereby the owner subsidized the sanuk of others.  It might make you feel good to do this but don't expect a lot of thanks  ;D

I have just made the purchase of a beer bar.  I will in time put up a post in a few parts on looking, legalities, and the whole experience. The location is right ( soi happy) and the bar will be redone to meet if not surpass ( hopefully) the looks of the neighboring bars. I got into it with the hopes that it might overall provide a living here and give me the chance to take a year off from the States. If it doesn't make it i can afford to stay for a year anyways and always can sell and go back to work in the U.S. I bought an opportunity but also valuable time away so i am ahead either way. Some bars are profitable. None of us would be having this board and a bar for homebase if Pete listened to all the nay sayers. If you can afford the losses you very well may encounter then go for it, if not i would advise against it. Cheers, B-Man!

Thanks Rhino, i'll need the luck. Sign goes up on Monday, bar is called "Seven Seas". It is on Soi Happy, going towards Happy a GoGo it is on the left hand side. Should be finished with all the remodeling and open in about 8 or 9 days. Come on in when you're in town and we'll shoot the shit. Cheers, B-Man!

Good luck CB , I'll call next time I'm in Pattaya (if you're still open  ;) ;D ) . Just remember , hands off the staff , it's just not worth the hassle . The location will mean you'll be competing with Joops favorite bar , Highway Star [smiley=AR15firing.gif] .

Can I do the interviewing for the new staff ? You know, take down their particulars etc ! I'll work cheap- like free. SEA you in August at last SEVEN times.

Good luck son I admire your balls (well perhaps at the end of a drinking session)

My GF old bar is in soi Happy opposite the toilet, so always our first call. ( The bar that is- not the toilet) ;)

It will be interesting to see your posts as you move from new bar about to open to doing business everyday. I hope you keep posting because your ideas, feelings, and goals with the bar may change down the road.

  Thanks for the replys guys!

Landy2a, every hour you are drinking in Pattaya is a happy one  ;D.  For you Cheap Charlies i may start something like drink coupons..... buy 4 and get the 5th one free LOL

Nidnoyham, nice to see you don't start in the toilet, do you ever end any nights there ???  Party with me and you might ! Are you talking about the Horn Bar? I have been in there a few times, pays to be a little closer to the toilet.

Fishingtime, I will make a post once the bar is open talking about all the things i went through from starting to look to the time it opened. After that i may make a few updates on the headaches, trials, and tribulations of it all. Will be interesting and an adventure, look forward to catching up with you guys sometime either at my bar or at the FLB meetings. Cheers, B-Man!

No, not the Horn bar, the one next to it. Its owned by Tom the big Austrian, managed by Derek the Dutchman.

exactly opposite the toilet.

It it a great place to watch the Ferang groups of couples, usually elderly, who dont realise that soi Happy isa dead end, they get just past the bar and realise that the only place to go is Happy Go-Go. Then you see the decision being made, the men want to go in, while the women shake their heads and do a U turn, followed by their dejected husbands. Never ceases to amuse.  ;)

NNH, i know the bar you are talking about. There are a few hotties in there at the moment. Soi Happy is kind of like Walking St Junior for ppl watching. All the gals from the beer bars on the soi as well as the Happy girls coming and going from their St's. Look at it this way, i am on the way to your friends bar and on the way back!!   ;D.  Look forward to meeting up with you on your next visit. Cheers , B-Man!

B-man,

See you about Aug 02, I'll be the only one there with his daughter & GF. Now torn between your bar, GF bar and Forget Me Not bar- The agony of choice eh? I wish all choices in life were this good. My daughter has been to Pataya twice, and is meeting freinds from England there before travelling. They were not too keen to come to Pataya, having heard so much BS about the place, Lucy has convinced them it is a great place to enjoy yourself, now that she knows the girls at Soi Happy, it is like a night out with her freinds anyway. The biggest problem is, one of the lads is coming with his S. African GF, who wasnt too keen on LOS in the first place- might have to work on her.  ;)
