The Charger should work, you just might need an adaptor from British to European or US AC. Most Thai Sockets accommodate both of them. These adaptors are usually cheap and you should get them more or less anywhere in Thailand, ask at the Hotel Lobby.

Your Phone should work, inclding SMS, once you made sure your Contract is good for roaming. But for prices I suggest you buy a prepaid Card, 600 - 800 Baht including some 300 Bt worth of calls. Your Phone might not work with these cards, but most Phone shops in Thaland can fiddle around and reprogram it for  a little fee (100 or 200 Baht). Then you have a different number, but - do you really want to receive 10 or 15 calls from people at home who don't know you're on holiday a day?

Leave your new number on your Voicemail (you can do this once from abroad, kind of "Hi, this is redevilgakm I'm abroad till the umteenth of December, in case you really need to talk to me right now, go ahead, spoil my day, call me at 01 66 7 1234567; bye!

Hope that helps, c u on November 30!

Hello everone , can anybody tell me if it is easy to get and electrical adapter to use in pattaya for my phone charger , where and how much please ? and also i have an orange pay as you go mobile here in england ,and i have sent a friend in thailand a few texts , works fine from over here but will i still be able to text or even call him over there ?

You can get an adapter at WH Smiths in the Airport or in the Duty Free shop after check in

Use the one marked US/Asia they work fine. Worked for us when we were there though you might need to bend the terminals on the adapter inwards a little.

They are about £3.95 methinks

If you find your phone wont work, go to MBK in BKK and get it unlocked for 100 Baht.

We found it cheaper to get our phone unlocked and bought a new 1-2-Call SIM pack for Thailand in MBK at 300 baht as Virgin wanted £1,25 per minute for calls. You can then get the top up cards anywhere

If you want to buy an adaptor before you get to the airport,Tesco sell them. They have a display stand with all sorts of  useful travelling accessories!

Definately buy a Thai sim card for you phone.Even if your pay-as-u-go set  up works out there, you could end up paying a fortune just to receive calls abroad.(Obviously,Orange tarrifs are different to my O2 package, but 02 charge at least 99p/minute! :o
