Soi 13 and Haven Hotel update

Recommended Posts

For anyone interested the latest on Soi 13 last week was pretty bad, the building work noise in the space between Ma Maison and Golden Crab is terrible and it woke me up every morning and continued right thru to the evening and it's the same with the new White House hotel next to the Dynasty. It is just like staying in the building site with all the lorrys, mud/dirt everywhere and when it rains then the mud flows down Soi 13. Mrs Roland didn't mind it as she used to work on a building site in Bangkok and was interested in seeing what was going on but if you want a nice relaxing place to stay then forget Soi 13 until the whole lot is finished although the rumour mill says that the three beer bars next to AA Residence will be demolished and another building go up there so the noise will continue for quite some time.

As for the Haven, apart from the noise all thru the day things haven't changed there and I won't be going back. It is a nice place to stay but with the usual niggles (laundry ruined, bookings being changed to suit his gold buddies, cleaners banging on the door, rooms not being cleaned etc ) plus all the building work noise makes it a place to avoid.

Thanks for your info..

I was considering to stay in Dynasty (Soi 13) at the end of August. But after reading all the info about the construction noise I will look for another place.

Roland, at what stage is this construction next to Ma Maison? It seems to be the noice of construction is much higher when foundation piles are being driven than when finishing work is being done. I'm, therefore, curious at what stage the constructiuon is currently and will be in a few months. I'm booked into the Sandy Spring in November and I really like the hotel and general location so if its a little noise at that stage, its OK but if its horrendous I may have to look at something else.

Wouldn't like to say what stage things would be in November, too early to call at the moment.

I'd say anyone staying in Soi 13 in the next month or two though wouldn't be too happy.

Roland,

Thanks for the update. I was do to stay there for 9 days starting on July 31st and have cancelled my reservations and will move them to Soi 8. I don't have a problem with the 'beerbar' noise on Soi 8, but do have a problem with construction noise. I stayed at the Sandy Spring for a week in April during Songkran and all the construction was idle.

jimmac,

I will go by the Sandy Spring before I leave in August and if all looks good for my December trip I will book and give a update. Like Roland said, its hard to figure that far out on any construction project in Thailand.

Thanks for the update Roland

Stayed at the Dynasty Inn Soi 13 last time in February this year cos of the free ride from the Dynasty Bangkok I enjoyed it as its new and the staff were great like in Bangkok

It was quiet then and had been thinking of staying again at the end of July but looks like I will have to give Soi 13 a miss this time

Pity as I love the location-used to stay at the AA Residence before the Dynasty

Is it affected by noise too ?

Cheers

Yup the whole of Soi 13 is like one big building site with noise, lorries , diggers the lot. With the upcoming rainy season nearly here it will only make things worse as even with last weeks showers the Soi was flooded with muddy water and I'd hate to see what prolonged rain would do apart from of course prolonging the work.

Rats. Looks like the planned stay at Sandy Spring in September's going to need a change of location.

How dare they dig the place up when I want to go on holiday. Bastards. :nod
