What a joke of a price
midlifecrisis replied to rascall's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
There's no reason? Some people want to stay at the Marriot. Up to them. Some people want an 800 baht room. Up to them. To the op, Areca has nice pools, especially the one out back, serves meals and has large, comfortable beds. To many it is worth 1300. I do not recommend the place. There were no drawers in my room to unpack my clothes and the laundry I sent out smelled like horrible perfume. After many washings back in the states I still have vacation clothes with that lingering odor. Other cheaper choices very close. I stayed at the Pasadena Lodge in August. My only complaint -
nothing in my box

I am there the second half of January so hope to meet you.
-
Although I agree with you in the long term, Pattaya is a logical place to begin retirement in Thailand for many, including myself.
-
Secrets? I know it is a bit farther but Pasadena Lodge fits your budget on Soi LK Metro and Irish Rovers next door has fans.
-
Geryy, are you an ex-pat then? I am moving there next year and would be happy to make your aquaintance and buy you a drink or two in January when I come for two weeks. I have a few unresolved questions, especially regarding finding housing.

Adam! Happy birthday! I will see you in January for sure. Maybe another midlifecrisis party is in order! Norm -
How ugly are you, honestly?
midlifecrisis replied to SmellyFarang's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
The ladies think I am cute. I have dimples and look ten years younger than I am to most. It is attitude and money that score chicks in Pattaya. I have seen some ugly guys with some ddg ladies. -
I wouldn't be upset about it. Seems reasonable from a western perspective.

OK, we are on the same page there! When it comes to cash I only brought maybe a grand and the bulk is in TCs. Now though I have a bank account and can send money to LOS. I did it for retirement visa purposes but I would recommend it to anyone who goes there a lot. Just wire money over! Joe?

I agree with Joe. The real issue is what gives the best exchange rate for what you exchange. Currency TCs (33 baht per transaction) ATM (150 baht per transaction) Joe?

Cherry Bar Party (Wan's Birthday)
midlifecrisis replied to Hammer's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
Wan is a nice lady. Not my type for a barfine but always my pleasure to buy her a drink or two. -
Which is why I am moving there next year. I will vacation with my adult kids once a year in California.

As I age the Elite class on EVA is worth every extra dollar. You also get 1.5 times the milage accrued if you are a regular passenger. The food is the same but the seats are wider with deeper pitch. The leg rest, bah, makes my jumpy leg sindrome worse. The seat reclines farther. On a 12.5 hour flight to TPE from SFO it makes a dif for this 58 y/o body with its many sports related injuries. Flew BKK to Taipei in economy two weeks ago and it reminded me why I love Elite class. BTW, 747 = Deluxe class and 777 = Elite class. Seats are different, especially leg rests.

I think that is good news for you Adam. Congratulations!

you will get what you pay for there. I helped a little birdie there with dental work too. Bigger problems later. Be cheap or get good care? -
Dental Implant Experiences
midlifecrisis replied to satyr's topic in Doctors, Dentists, Clinics and Hospitals
Paps, My recent experience. I had the crowns on the same molar break twice. The last was just a week before my trip to Pattaya this month. My dentist was on vacation so I went to see another. He told me that because I had had a root canal on that tooth, the underlying tooth was dead and weaker. He patched it so I could travel but told me either to get an all metal crown or a porcelin crown with metal underlay in the future for structural support. I have a gold crown on one molar. Nobody can see it really, even when I smile. If it was in front I would go all for cosmetic appearance but in t -
Ground transportation options - BKK / Pattaya
midlifecrisis replied to FarSider's topic in Transport in Thailand
For a car service they are about the same cost as others and cheaper by 1/3 over Secrets. I am bookmarking them for future reference. I agree with you and Bill Wilson that after a long flight (and for me a long work day and evening before the flight) it is great to have transportation pre-arranged. By the time I get to my hotel in Pattaya it has been at least a 36 hour day with minimal sleep on the airplane. I don't want to deal with any more than looking at the scenery. -
