nidnoyham replied to sinbinjack's topic in Airline Discussion
I got so peed off with trying to get a good deal ex BKK. It was either air Asia ex KUL with all the xtras; baggage- meal- comfort kit.... plus the BKK-KUL-BKK leg. Air Lanka with a 10 hour conex time in CMB each way... I have booked Si on BA BKK-LHR-BKK. Fare 23650bht + 13370bht taxes, fuel- just over 37,000bht. as you say tom £550 a year ago, now over 700. ( I need a lay down in a dark room ) Yeh it's more than I wanted to pay, but isn't everything ? She doesn't have to change aircraft in some foreign airport and I don't have to drive to Stanstead to meet her. T4 LHR, i -

I bet it's not 19,150bht the other way though. -
Thanks Tom, I am just about to phone her to arrange a travel date that is OK. Hey it may be the 28th with you !

Well it looks like Air Asia for Si to travel to London. The London flight will orig' in KUL. Si will have to fly from BKK, claim her bag and then re check in for London. She is not the most experienced flier and worries about airport check-in and stuff. She speaks good English, so should be OK in that department. Can anyone tell me if KUL has separate Terms for local and long haul flights ? Will it involve a lot of walking to check in from arrivals ? I asked a Travel Agent in LOS if the bag could be tagged thru to final dest', but even if you fly Air Asia both legs, it isn't do

£1.60 per mile ? Very reasonable. It's £2 to get on a bus for that distance in London.

Just a word Elk. I may be stating the bleedin obvious but, I would get a visa arranged before lobbing out wedge on a cheap non refundable airline ticket. If your lady is not coming for another 4 months, the visa can only start 8 weeks before travel. The reason probably being, that any bank statements etc you send as a sponsor, will be considered out of date after that time. My lady went to the visa office in BKK today and was told about the rule. Once the visa is issued, travel must begin within 2 months.

March- June return 28,000bht + taxes on their website- BKK-LHR_BKK. still toooo much.
-
Thanks Tom, 800 quid ? I'd want a house and horse and cart for that.

with baggage/meal and comfort kit ( I think ) KUL-STN-KUL is 2107 MYR. I haven't converted that, but it's a fair price.
-
I did them earlier as well, it was about £560+ tax. May get it and take a chance on her getting a UK visa. There has been a hold up- Thais !
-
I forgot to add taxes. Total 40,860BHt- £851!
-
I wish I had thought of that ! If only it prevented the Greed Disease from spreading.

The cheapest flight in reverse for March - June is around the 31,500 Bht mark. About £650

A quick question. I have got the price of a KUL-LHR-KUL ticket from Air Asia on their own web-site. The price is converted from their local currancy- £501+ taxes etc. If I use a Thai travel agent, will I be quoted in Thai Baht, perhaps making it dearer, for the same flight ? I want them to arrange the BKK-KUL conex for me. I keep having trouble with the Air Asia web-site. -
My mate tried the web site for me first. They had a BSA motorbike and a Hillman Minx for sale on it- you could be right.
-
Yeh and it's a long way to India.
-
I recently tried their website for flights ex BKK, but the ones showing, were a year out of date -Jan 08 ! Sent them an e-mail, but no reply. They are supposed to be good, if you are there.

The contact in Chaing Mai has mentioned Air Aisa to me as an alternative. Time is getting on, I will have to grasp the nettle and get things going. There should be no problem with the visa, as it is her 5th one. The exch rate is up a bit, so next week will be shit or bust time. Oh, and if Si ends up on your flight, I don't want any mile high post from you with her. Poor girl, all she will remember will be a swirl of a kilt, a whiff of Old Spice and a feeling of unfullfilment. Thanks fro the advise though. -

At least Thai are saving money on their wage bill at LHR. Pity there's only a handfull of workers there. The big saving will be on their handeling costs with SK. Spare a thought for my friend who has worked for them for 25 years. Her Pension is based in Thailand and the last retirement forecast, was £1,000- per year !! That was when the ex rate was about the 60bht mark. so it might be up to £1,450 now. -

I got a price on EVA for about £850 from the travel agent so, I asked for a non direct flight. Waiting to hear back. I just got a price for KUL-STN-KUL on Air Asia of £501- that's more like it. The web is not responding for a BKK-KUL-BKK quote. That is for 30MAR KUL-STN. 30 JUN STN-KUL. I am flexible on dates, but am trying to avoid Easter and high summer for the return leg. 01 May ex BKK and 30 Jul ex STN are the latest dates. Any 3 months between 01 Apr- 30 JUL will do, as long as it is a 3 month ticket. JUL is a bit late, but who knows, by then, no bugger may be flyin -

Am following up a contact in LOS, an ex workmate who runs a T.Agency. If he comes up with a good BKK-LHR-BKK price, I will keep those who are interested posted.
