  1. What type of property are you looking for? A townhouse along Soi Khaotalo or Soi Kow Noi with two bedrooms will set you back between 7-12000 baht per month whilst a two or three bed-roomed house will cost you between 15-25000 baht per month. Price will reflect quality. The best thing you can do is have a ride around the area and get a feel of where you like or dislike. Many houses display ‘for rent’ signs so you won’t have a problem in finding one. Try and avoid paying large up-front deposits which is sometimes not so easy to get back. Unfortunately there are some landlords who wil
  2. Question for you Dr. Mick. Did you find your house through an agent or on a walk about? About three years ago I contacted an agent in Khon Kaen with regard to renting a house there but at best he was uncooperative and in the end i gave up on him. He was a farang. About nine years ago I spent some time in Khon Kaen or I should say Ban Don Bom which is a few clicks outside the city with a female i was involved with at the time. I was there for the opening night of the number 1 bar which at the time was run by Geoff from the UK. The last time I was in the bar the owner was a guy c
  3. *99***1# is the old connection number used by both AIS and Detac and was replaced with *99# at least 12 months ago. As well as using TT&T Max-net broadband from the comfort of my home I also have a SOLOMON - SEGM-520 EDGE modem which is plugged into a USB port which I use when ‘on the road’ and “up country” The modem is no great shakes on speed but it gets me by when nothing else is available. I once sat in a rice field in Isarn whilst the misses was helping papa and got a connection. This is the top up procedure. To top up AIS Sim-card: Dial *138 (star 138) P
  4. I have an EDGE modem which is little used these days since I went broadband with TT&T - MaxNet. I ran both Dtac and AIS and switched them around depending on connection and speed on the day. Now and again I’d insert the disc and re-load mobile phone tools which sometimes helped. Another thing I did was to create a separate icon using the dial-up number *99# dumping the useless dial-up number previously used by both Dtac and AIS which was a cause of poor connections.
  5. Nokia N73 I tried the firmware suggestion but I’m still having problems with the mobile freezing at the same place which is the screen with the Nokia wording just before it goes into the intro sound with the clasping hands. Sometimes (but not often) it will open up to the working screen but after a period of time it freezes up again. Big C and ‘Dr Phone’ is my next stop. Thanks for help and info.
  6. Check this out. A new Bangkok to Clarke airport in Angeles city flight has started. I made a dummy enquiry and below is the feedback from the airline with regard to flight times and cost. http://www.cebupacificair.com/ Fares listed below are exclusive of applicable taxes and surcharges Select your preferred flight and fare combination below and click "Continue"." If you plan on booking a follow-on flight, for example Cebu to Manila, then Manila to Hong Kong, and this is not booked as a connecting flight, i.e. you book 2 single sector flights, please allow the following m
  7. Thanks for help and advice. As yet I’ve done nothing but will have a go his coming weekend. Valentinoxxx I have the cable you mentioned and Nokia pc suite on my computer which I’ll use to back up my data. Bizzjet I only use photos taken by myself on the screen. If all else fails it looks like a trip to Dr phone in Big C I’ll keep you informed of what if anything happens.
  8. I have a Nokia N73 that’s frozen on me a few times and now it won’t open to the working screen. When I turn it on it goes as far as the white screen with the word Nokia then freezes, and that’s it. I have to remove the battery to turn it off as it won’t respond to any keys or the on/off key. I know there are zillions of repair stalls in Tukcom but which ones are the good ones, that I don’t know. Can anyone recommend a decent mobile phone repair shop to me?
  9. I have a Nokia N73 which i recently bought for 10.600 baht. At the time of purchace I also looked at the N70 and N72. I'f my memory serves me correct the N70 was around 7.300 baht and the N72 around 6.500 baht The only difference i could see between the N70 and the N72 was that the memory card of the N70 comes with 2GB of storage, otherwise they are identicle. Like all things in Thailand second hand never comes cheap. Go for a new one. Hope this helps
  10. I recently went to see Barry Kenyan the British embassy rep in Pattaya with regard to my retirement visa which is due in July. For the past few years I’ve obtained my retirement visa on the 800.000 baht in my Thai account but due to the poor exchange rate I asked what are the options and below is what he told me. Note: 800.000 baht plus living expences until the money is freed amounts each year to a 1 million baht transfer. There are only two options he said (I see three) Option 1: Deposit 800.000 baht in a Thai account for a period of not less than three months prior to your
  11. I raised this same question with the nurse who works for BUPA, Pattaya branch and hails from the UK and she recommended a dentist down Pattaya central road (Pattaya Klang) Just beyond the juntion with Carrefour heading toward the beach is the junction with third road go through the lights and its the second dentist on the left.
  12. This is an opinion rather than fact but I’ve always believed the taste of beers like Heineken and the likes of San Miguel light which are brewed under licence in Thailand could be affected by water quality. Just my opinion guys.
  13. I renewed my 3rd retirement visa on the 4th July 2007 and at the same time converted it to multi entry. The 90-day reporting date was set as the 19th August. On the 8th August i made my first trip out of Thailand in four years and was unsure how the multi entry worked on my retirement visa. I've had a multi entry standard "O" visa for years where the immigration police stamp the date for you but on my arrival at Suvarnabumi on the 20th August the immigration officer gave me a stamp which was dated as the expiry date of my retirement visa which is the 4th July 2008. Somewhat confused
