  1. Exactly. Surely curiosity would get the better of you? I know the Thais are secretive about their language, but please, counting to ten? Asking for a drink? The bill? Asking someone their name? Disrespectful and arrogant not to know the basics in my opinion. I'd learnt that sort of stuff by then end of my first trip.
  2. So you're telling me you have never encountered a situation in all your travels to Thailand when it may have been advantageous to know how to count to ten in Thai?
  3. I cannot believe that some people who go to Thailand regularly haven't even managed to master the language as far as counting to ten.
  4. Well for United to lose three on the bounce is unthinkable so I'm going to have to go with them. I reckon they'll go all out to win this as they have not only lost two on the trot but citeh knocked them out of this competition last year too at the semi final stage. I would love to see United win the FA Cup again as they are the most successful FA Cup team and they haven't won it since 2004 which is far too long. For a long time when I was a kid this was the only thing they could realistically win and I have some great memories of going to Wembley from my youth.
  5. Gutted. You never predicted anything. All you said was "can Newcastle cause a shock tonight?"
  6. It's got one of the best pool tables in the area though!
  7. It's very often the case. They have a habit of grinding out results even when they aren't playing well and people are criticising them. Then the second half of the season comes and they do the business. They'll come good, just wait and see!
  8. As far as I'm aware, it's completely different when it comes to houses and condos and the law when (and if) you split from your Thai wife, exactly why I don't want to buy a house in the first place. For one thing, you can't have the house entirely in your name because it sits on LAND so therefore it has to be 51% owned by a Thai person, i.e your wife. 51% is a majority and exactly the reason why the Thais do this because they know a farang will get nothing from a court IF it even gets that far. Blocks of condos work on the same principle, e.g only 49% of the condos in any one block can be
  9. Very doubtful. You haven't seen the memorabilia in my Uncle's bar in Spain. Now that's a Sports Bar.
  10. Based on those three photos and an asking price of £140,000, that has to be one of the lamest attempts at selling a Pattaya beer bar I have ever seen. What makes it a Sports Bar? The footballer models on the shelf above the bar?
  11. I think most people go through this stage at some point - you fall in love with Thailand and then you try to figure out how you're going to live there. Teaching English or buying a bar is the first idea for most!
  12. Much better to get yourself a job lined up before you get there, I agree. Without a degree and only a bog standard training course behind you, you're not exactly going to be hitting Soi Cowboy every night with what you're going to earn but if it's a simple life in an exotic clime that you're after, then I'd advise anyone to go for it. If you're intentions are long term then there's no reason why you couldn't study for a degree whilst residing in Thailand. Shame I only read the OP, I discovered later that it was posted in 2002!
  13. So if we buy a condo together and then things turn sour I will lose it? I was under the impression that I would be entitled to half of it?
  14. There is always a demand for English teachers in Thailand. There is much more work available in Bangkok but work can be found elsewhere too, it's just harder to come by than it is in Bangkok. It is much more advantageous if you have a degree as employers prefer you to have one although you can still find work if you haven't got one, it'll just be harder. There are a variety of courses to choose from although many of them (such as the short TEFL courses) just get your foot in the door as emplyers are much more interested in how many hours of actual teaching experience you have obtained before y
  15. Sunderland DO beat citeh with a last minute winner! Who'd have thought it? Citeh have wasted several opportunities to pull away this season and create a significant gap and this is what is going to cost them the title. I seriously thought that they were going to win it this year but now I have changed my mind, the title will go back to Old Trafford for the twentieth time.
