Last man standing. Or girl. The only rule is that if two people post the same number, the first one into the system wins and the second poster is out. That's the elimination. So it could be a while to get a winner. But the winner gets the FLB Limo for any Friday AND Saturday night of his/her choice. 1 Oh. I almost forgot. Thanks to MM for suggesting this excellent thread and donating First Prize. .

99 per cent of money changers have better rates than the bank. That's what I said way ^^^^ up there near the start. Look. If there was a "best place" to change money, then everyone with really big money would go there and all the banks and all the other money changers wouldn't exist. There ARE different rates by a couple or three satang, and that's about it. Shop if you must, you're just using shagging time, though. .

Not in town. The recycling bin is at the dump, where families make their living recycling. Most Thais sell their stacks of newspapers for about 1 baht a kilo to a guy who comes around in a three-wheeled cart. The "selang" man resells the paper - usually directly to a processor. By leaving them stacked in your hotel room, you'd effectively be giving a small tip to the maid. .

Green Isle Foods of Ireland (duh) fired three workers because they were looking at pornographic email on company computers during work hours. And now the workers are on strike for the right to watch pr0n. I think that's disgusting. That is way WAY over the top - beyond ridiculous. Who the hell thinks Irish can make pizza? Thanks Conan O'Brien.

Airbus and Boeing products running behind schedule

Do you realise what you wrote? All of you (and you are a European, noted) are more realistic than some Americans. There is not a single exception in all of Europe and its closely-possessed islands, not one. That is definitely funny. . -

What are China Alrlines like to travel with

A real vanilla operation. Slightly smaller seats and pitch. Edible food, planes almost always on time, no extras. Gets where it's going, almost always dependably. Nothing bad to say, but nothing great to boost it. They usually have cheapest or close-to-cheapest tickets, so that's another good point of course. . -
Then it's highly unlikely she'll like the Queen Vic or anything in that neighbourhood. Take her to a decent hotel on the beach, preferably on Jomtien. Test her open mindedness on a walk down Walking Street. Dumping her into the pool to see if she wants to swim with a toothache is not a great idea. In the Queen Vic, all your fellow residents are banging 22 year old girls all night, and often raucously. All your neighbours are where the girls came from. There's a good breakfast, surrounded by the guys and their 22 year olds. With a toothache, I'm not sure *I* would want that. .

Heh. So now the guys who don't like you know what to do with what they can't finish. Just kidding, but I'm sure you're right. -
As just about everyone says - a month's rent plus another month, in advance, is normal. And not just in Thailand. .

Yes there is a change to security procedures. It was announced a couple of days ago. I'm sure it will be chaos for a short while, changes usually are. But it makes some sense and it'll work out, probably. Supposedly it will save some money and allow for better use of a rather skimpy security staff. We'll see about that part. .

I am ROFLMAOASTC. Mr Newton, meanwhile, is rolling over in his grave. .

This is actually what I meant. You have to be desperate to pick a phone over actual ISP - you obviously are desperate. If you give it a go, let us know what happens. .

Or buy a proper iron (220V) for 600 baht, anyway. It *is* a problem for Norte Americanos and Japanese, raised pathetically deprived of real electricity until they become helpless adults, unable to cope (or iron) in a fully charged world, forever identified by their crumpled Arrow shirts. .

Yeah, sorry, when you wrote "aerial" it never occurred to me you meant a coathanger. "Rabbit ears" are decidedly un-good in Pattaya. A TV aerial will cost about 700 to 1,200 baht installed properly on the roof - or DIY on the balcony as jacko says. .
-
He said he is going to run a 110V appliance on a 220V Thai line with a step-down transformer. Where is the "extra wattage" going to come from? .
-
I must say that of all the stories I have read, seen and heard, I have never heard of anyone who used Hutch as his primary Internet supply by choice. I've never heard in, oh, six or eight years ONE person say or write that he got better Internet service via this phone service than an Internet provider. I've heard a lot of them say it's better than the other phone providers. .

Thailand has five main national TV stations that broadcast terrestially, and three of them seem to have good reception in Pattaya with an aerial. There are three or four UHF stations, I'm not sure how good an aerial you'd need for them. A TV set with an aerial in Pattaya is going to pick up four, five stations okay. .

Great minds, once again, totally agree. In my circumstances, nothing legal can beat bank transfers, sounds like you are in the same boat. Bear in mind that over time I send more money out of Thailand than in, but I do it both ways. As a resident or VERY frequent visitor to Thailand with all income from outside Thailand, I (would) use bank transfers. Along that line, there's a great thread on this board by Upena about how to let PayPal play. I don't use that, but it is very credible and works for him and others. As a visitor to Thailand, I'd probably use cash UNLESS I got a heck of a deal on TCs from my bank. But if I were just a one- or two-time tourist I'd probably use my ATM for convenience because, you know, the losses using ATM are just a little bit of what you lose everywhere on a once-in-a-lifetime visit to Thailand, what the hell is 150 baht and a less-than-optimal exchange rate compared with the great time it's paying for? .
-
Not ATM. I'd always go with cash, big bills. But I know people who swear by the TCs. Part of that would be if you can get them free of course. And again, you might want to shop just a bit, even for a few hundred, because shops will also vary their offers for cash and TCs. There's a lot of advantage in ATMs, but "best rates" ain't one of them, eh?
-
Yep, it is one company, not two. CAT Telecom is part of the Thai duopoly, and it is officially the marketing end of Hutchison, which is a Hong Kong company operating the fourth-biggest mobile phone company in Thailand, i.e. the smallest except for the infinitesimal SuthepNet aka Thai Mobile. But Hutch/CAT has been going for a good long time, it's not at all new. It still has great promise and at some point may break out. It's the only CDMA around. It's generally said that in Bangkok and the surrounding 25 provinces (including Chon Buri) where Hutch operates, that it is the best data throughput. Your mileage is almost certain to vary. A LOT of people who have it swear by it.

The rates are hardly different. That said, the money changer is ALWAYS a better rate than the bank, although usually it's a matter of satang. There are hundreds of money changers, and unless you're changing many thousands of dollars/pounds, you're only going to waste time trying to window-shop and compare them. .

The basic and common thing you can do is put a sig-line in your profile, all text. Like mine. Nothing fancy. You CAN do a few other things, but not too much. You can put in a graphic, but in general, only if you upload it - for example. There are various tricks and exceptions, that's the thing. But the key is the security of the board.
-
What do you want to do? IN GENERAL you can't put links or scripts in a signature for security reasons.
