  1. Big Chief, I've seen this same thing happen on a Thai soap opera. You need to get a Thai witch-doctor involved, screw the police, this guy is not going to leave your family alone. Hex the fucker.
  2. Can you please let me know when you get the money. We can meet at the Starbuck's next to Mcdonalds and talk about your investment options. Glad things worked out for you and the family. Your special friend, handle
  3. Under former Land Office policy, Thai nationals who married foreigners were prohibited from ownership of land in Thailand. This prohibition was based on principles of community property law and a general presumption that the Thai spouse was holding the land for the benefit of the foreigner. However, under current Land Office policy the Thai spouse can own land in Thailand, provided that the foreign spouse signs a letter declaring the property to be the separate property of the Thai spouse and waiving any interest in the property. She is going to tell you to get your ass off of her property. For those interested in reseaching these issues, A google on "thai property ownership laws" will bring back a weath of good and bad information. As has been talked about here and other forums. http://www.thailawforum.com/news.html New Regulation Designed to Keep Foreigners out of Thai Real Estate Business 15 May 2006 The Ministry of Interior issued a new regulation intended to crackdown on foreigners engaged in the real estate business in Thailand . Foreigners attempting to circumvent Thai law prohibiting aliens from owning land establish “shell companies” composed of Thai nominees who lack real interest in the company. Foreigners use these companies to illegally purchase and sell land to other foreigners. The Ministry of Interior has requested that the Department of Land investigate the background of any Thai nominee in a company with foreign shareholders and foreign directors who are suspected to hold their position in place of a foreigner. The land officer will examine their occupation, their monthly income and their length of employment to ascertain the Thai shareholders role is genuine before a land purchase can take place. and see Option # 2 - Limited Company - recommended. http://th-property.com/Thai_property_law.asp Kind of goes against what the The Ministry of Interior issued.

    A Story

I have no idea if this is true or not. It is a will written story either way. Has anyone heard about this? http://www.writing.com/main/view_item/item_id/1131993
  6. YMMV, Out of the 8 fights with them in January, 2 were delayed. The critial one having a connection on the other end, that cost me. Have flown a total of 16 fights of which 4 have been delayed by 30 minutes or more. Lesson learned when I have a connecting flight. Don't count on them to get you there on time. 99 baht sounds good until you miss the next fight. You eat the tickets and have to rebook at a much higher cost. Don't bother rebooking at the airport. Do it online if you can. Their call center is a waste of your time. In this case you do get what you pay for.
  7. BKK to UBP 100 THB Airport Tax 100 THB Insurance Surcharge 100 THB Administration Fee 146 THB Value Added Tax 800 THB Fuel Surcharge -------------------------------- 1246.86 THB Total Tax 50 THB Water Charge for 2 round trip 4490 baht The thing with AirAsia is: You had better check in before the counter is closed for your flight. Try using the excuse your late because the other AirAsia flight you were just on was delayed. See how far that will get you. This happened to me in Jan on a Chang Mai to BKK flight. Four of us missed the check in window and I had to eat the tickets and cost. Check out Thai Air for 4 one ways and still booked on AirAsia. I was pissed but got over it when I saw how much Thai wanted. Still cheaper than Thai 4180.00 + 1010.00 x 2 Adult = 10380.00 and much cheaper than LAX to BKK EVA all in August 19 - Sept 10 econo 36,449.18 THB
  8. Not on your budget you won't 3000 GBP 202,713.25 THB / 180 days = 1126 THB per day hotel 500 baht food (3 meals at food cart) 60 baht Baht bus 20 baht 1 Leo beer (bought from Big C by the case) 37 baht Total 617 baht leaves you with 509 baht a day for other expenses. Looks pretty tight to me. Do the month deal, see how much you need to save for the 6 month trip.
  9. check this place out Lotus Hotel Pang Suan Kaew http://www.hotels.chiangmai-online.com/lotus.html Just don't go for the 250 per person / each way airport transfer. It's away from the action. Next to a shopping mall. Your wife should love it. About 15 minutes from the Airport. compared to Lotus Hotel Pang Suan Kaew http://www.sawadee.com/chiangmai/lotus/
  10. RedRackam, I agree some are going to make money off this. The hype has only started. Bird flu pandemic risk 'very high' http://www.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/conditions/...flu.warning.ap/ Interesting article 1918 Killer Flu Virus Yields Genetic Secrets to Help Fight Bird Flu http://www.voanews.com/burmese/2005-10-09-voa2.cfm
  11. I too was in Thailand during SARS, 6 days later the war in Iraq started. Two trips later it was the Bird Flu, I had chicken or eggs every day the first week, the second week the hotel stopped serving chicken or eggs. You can always find a reasons not to go. Being informed and prepared is about all you can do. Then go and do it.
  12. In March of 1997, the news broke that researchers at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D. C. had isolated genetic material from the virus. This was no easy task. The living virus is no longer around. It turns out that while conducting autopsies in 1918, Army doctors had preserved some specimens in formaldehyde. One of these jars contained the lungs of a 21 year old soldier that died. The researchers spent nearly two years extracting just seven percent of the genetic code, but the evidence gathered has provided a great wealth of information.
  13. FYI... The pandemic (an epidemic that is spread worldwide) that killed at least 25 million people in one year. A disease that is largely forgotten. A disease that occurred in the 20th century! I know what you're thinking - AID's, Syphilis, or the dreaded Ebola. All are wrong. It was the influenza of 1918-1919, right after World War I (the war killed 9 million men in 4 years) This was no minor disease - everyone on the planet was at risk. And it was started right here in the good old U. S. of A. In one year, nearly twenty million cases were reported in the United States, accounting for almost one million deaths. The cause is still unknown, but is believed to have been a mutated swine virus. It appears that the virus passed from birds to pigs and then to humans. These are the deadliest of all viruses. The viruses tend to remain stable in the birds, but occassionally they infect pigs. Of course, the pig immune system kicks into action and the virus is forced to mutate to survive. Both the Asian flu (1957) and the Hong Kong flu (1968), which were not as deadly, mutated from pig viruses. // end of my cut and paste for today. Dead is dead whether your scared or not. You might as well enjoy life while you can. But, don't be sleeping with pigs.
  14. Well done Zaphodbeeblebrox, Gooooooooooooal.

  16. In case the limeys did not know. To Celebrate EVA Air's First 777-300ER aircraft launching on Taipei - London route In September Starting from SEP 15 to NOV 30, 2005(travel date), Evergreen Club members who travel between Taiwan to/from London or Bangkok to/from London with C/Y/M/Q/L/V/K/T/B/U tickets can earn 6,777 bonus miles on Premium Laurel Class, 4,777 bonus miles on Elite Class and 2,777 bonus miles on Economy Class for each one-way route. These bonus miles are not qualified for card tier upgrades or renewal. Moreover, members who book and issue tickets through EVA Air's Web site during this promotional period will not receive the extra bonus miles from the Internet booking promotional program.
  17. monkeyman, Well, I book on line with EVA then call them to do the upgrade. Don't wait too long after you book so, you can get good seats. You'll find a phone number here: http://www.evaair.com/html/b2c/english/global_tools/couns/ I would think you could buy a ticket anywhere and get an upgrade as long as it was not one of the following, better call them if, you plan to buy somewhere else. Holders of the following tickets can not reserve a free upgrade in advance: Various free or special offer tickets, such as free tickets, tickets with no face value, and free or discount travel/airline industry tickets, Barter tickets, Group tickets, Special promotion fare tickets, (Ex: Holding R/H booking class tickets ) Free upgrades are allowed upon airport check-in and are subject to seat availability with sufficient Electronic Miles or Electronic Upgrade Certificates For May I'm on standby for business class (really don't expect to get it) on the long legs. On the A330 legs got upgraded to Premium Laurel Class. I have in the past done the upgrade from economy to evergreen deluxe. Never a problem with EVA except for delays due to fog in Taipei.
  18. One night in FLB, after buying way too many LD's, getting way too pissed, and BF'ing On, it finally came to check bin time. After everything was totaled up, I was to my embarrassment over extended by about 200 baht. I explained the situation to Om, I told her I had the funds back at the RG. The kind hearted Om handled the situation without me losing any more face. If good Karma counts for anything she had heaps of it. She will be missed by all whom she had a chance to meet. What a sweet lady.
  19. ShadowDweller, I stayed at Lotus last January for a week. No problem on guests. During the day no one cares, take two up. After 10:00 pm a suited security guy sits at a little desk before you get to the elevators. He will take TG's ID and give you a call in the morning when she picks it up. I would start at the farthest bar away from Sukhumvit and work your way back to the Lotus. If you don't find something that sparks your interest you can get on the Sky Train and head to Cowboy or Nana. If you can make it down Soi 33 and cross the street you'll find Washington Square.
  20. chohk dee kroÌ‚p tuÌ‚an chăn baÌ‚i nŏr dee kwaÌa nuÌ‚at niÌt noÌ€y โชคดีครบถ้วนฉันใบ้หนอดีคว้านวด Transliteration: Good luck to you, Maybe I'm dumb, but I've got time to grab a little massage. That's what I came up with.
  21. Jimmac, I was curious about them. I kind of figured it was Asian package tourist trap place. Royal Cruise, thanks for the name. Three stars. http://www.gothailand.com/hotels/pattaya/f...l-cruise-hotel/ 24 Dec '04 6,695 Baht what a deal. 1,995 Baht a night they must really be bringing them in by the bus load. Must be hell trying to get to the buffet line. Sometimes you have to show teeth and make growling sounds when one butts in line. If pushed, push back. Thanks for the 411. I won't be staying there anytime soon. Growler, You won't get seasick.
  22. I've walked by a few times. Sol 5,6,7 or 8 (can't remember) Anyone know anything about the cruise ship shaped hotels? Are they finished yet? I think they had the one closest to Beach Rd open last March. What's the deal with these?
  23. The Evergreen Transit Hotel is on the same level as the Evergreen Club. As you come out of the club turn to your left and go about 50-75 meters. You make right turn then a guick turn to your left. You'll see a nice set of lounge chairs and the counter. You can't see it from the club as it is around the corner. Really is easy to miss. That reminds me of the Cheyenne Mountain incident in 1979 when a technician accidentally fed an attack simulation tape into the main computers, prompting the command center's display screens to depict Soviet missiles homing in on Strategic Air Command bomber bases; the alert was so convincing that the president's command jet reportedly took off without any instructions from Jimmy Carter.
  24. Nice reports echster It will be my 4th trip on EVA (2 on NW, never going back). I do hate Tom Bradley International Terminal. Leaving that HELL hole of a terminal makes me appreciate other airports. On the last trip in Sept. the day before the departure LAX got evacuated because a flashlight exploded in Tom Bradley. On the return trip, made it all the way to LAX no problems. Boarded for the second to the last leg of the trip. Just as we were getting ready to pull back, the Regional Air Control Center went down (lost the power grid). Spent 3 hours waiting for a 1 hour flight to Las Vegas. Missed my connecting fight home, it got canceled. Heard about 400 flights were affected that day. The showers in the Evergreen Club at Taipei are nasty and there can be a wait to use them. You can pick up a small towel, soap and shampoo pack at the counter when you check into the lounge, just ask. I go to the Evergreen day hotel and pay 10USD to use their nice clean showers. 2005/1/19 - 2005/2/6 908.50 USD including taxes LAX to BKK Evergreen Deluxe on the long legs, A330 Economy Class on the shorts. 176.70 for Southwest to LAX Nothing should happen this trip. All flights will leave on time. Weather will be fine. Control Center will have the backup plan enabled. X
  25. Can you trade NWA miles? I've got 47000 miles on NWA. I'll trade for some EVA miles.
